SUMMARY
  • Disney's Cars had this brilliant detail hidden that most fans seemed to have missed.
  • Luigi's number plate featured the latitude and longitude of the location of Italian car brand Ferrari.
  • There is no new about Cars 4 even after seven years since the third movie was released.

Marvel isn’t the only one who knows how to impress the viewers by smartly plotting hidden details in its movies. Disney’s Pixar also has a thing for the same and its 2006 family-comedy movie is the proof of it.

American animation studio, Pixar, has earned loads of appreciation from all around the world for its movies. Pixar’s name has been on everyone’s lips for producing movies like Cars, Inside Out, Toy Story, and Coco. In fact, 15 out of 50 movies by Pixar are on the list of highest-grossing animated films of all time.

Interestingly, Pixar is beyond just its box-office earnings and accolades. The way the company puts efforts into its movies is worth appreciating. One of the prominent examples is a hidden detail in the 2006 animated movie, Cars

Directed by John Lasseter, Cars was released in June 2006. The movie received critical appreciation and earned $461.9 million on a budget of $120 million (via Box Office Mojo). However, there’s more about the movie rather than just this critical and commercial success. The movie has a subtle detail in it that many fans might have missed.

Cars featured a friendly Italian car named Luigi, the owner of Luigi’s Casa Della Tires in Radiator Springs. The detail worth noticing about Luigi is the interesting license plate that reads ‘44.5-10.8’. Although the license plate may look normal at the surface, it’s actually the latitude and longitude coordinates of the Ferrari factory in Maranello, Italy.

Although it’s just a small detail in an animated movie, it still is proof of how invested the filmmakers can be while working on the project. Even after so many years of its release, this detail is shocking enough to blow the minds of the fans.

Fans have been waiting for another installment of Cars for years now, but have got no solid confirmation. Although producers are interested in expanding the series further, Disney hasn’t confirmed anything yet. Producers Kevin Reher and Andrea Warren told Collider:

Like any sequel, from Toy Story 4 to Incredibles 2, as long as there’s a good story to tell it’s worth investing, we do love these characters, we love them as much as the public does.

Five years after the release of the first film, Cars 2 was released in 2011. The second installment, also directed by John Lasseter, earned $559 million against a budget of $200 million (via Box Office Mojo). Although a decent box-office collection for an animated movie, the movie didn’t earn much critical appreciation as compared to the first part.

Following Cars 2, Cars 3 was released in 2017. The movie was directed by Brian Fee and produced by Kevin Reher. The movie earned $383.9 million, which is much less when compared to its predecessors. This might be a reason why there has been no news regarding a new installment in the franchise.
