More Than 1500 Theaters are Removing The Flash, James Gunn Forced to Eat His Own Words
The news concerning DCU’s The Flash future has finally come out. The Flash was one of the most highly anticipated movies from the new DC universe. The film is marked as a standalone for Ezra Miller and hit theaters on June 16. The film follows Barry Allen on a quest to save his mother from getting killed. In the process, Allen alters the timeline and releases the DC Multiverse.
The Flash was hyped for bringing back various characters from the DCEU. Fans were delighted to see some of their favorite characters reprise their superhero role for the film. James Gunn, the head of DCU, praised the director of the film and called it one of the greatest superhero films ever made. However, the director’s words have backfired on him, as The Flash has performed miserably at the box office.
James Gunn’s words backfire as The Flash removed from theaters
After facing many ups and downs, The Flash hit theaters on June 16, 2023. The Ezra Miller-starring film was first announced in 2014 and took a long time to come out. Over the years, The Flash was involved in several controversies, especially surrounding Miller.
The Flash film received high acclaim from DCU head James Gunn, who praised the director Andy Muschietti for his work while having some of his plans in the revamped DC cinematic universe. The director took control of DC and announced that he will be bringing major changes to the franchise and giving it a fresh start to compete with MCU. He called The Flash “probably one of the greatest superhero movies ever made.”
The Flash drawing its inspiration from the Flashpoint comic book storyline, brought back various characters from the multiverse. Being one of the highly anticipated films, it failed to impress at the box office. Gunn’s words have backfired on him with the superhero films’ poor performance.
As per reports, The Flash is being removed from theaters after its worst performance in the second week. The movie barely made money in its second weekend in the US, with a decline of 72.5% from the first weekend. Many theatre owners have grown impatient with the movie because it isn’t drawing in more people to the theatres. To make room for more recent movies that are still drawing crowds to theatres, 1538 cinemas have decided to drop The Flash from their schedule.
The downfall of The Flash at the box office continues
The Flash, the highly anticipated superhero film starring Ezra Miller, is facing trouble at the box office. Despite a $220 million budget, the film only brought in $55 million in its opening weekend in the US.
The movie was predicted to make roughly $70 million in its first week of release. The second-weekend box office for Miller’s superhero movie suffered a substantial decline. It is predicted to end Sunday with a 3-day total of $15.3 million, placing it at No. 3 on the weekend list, with a worse-than-anticipated 73 percent fall.
The Flash is presently sitting at $91 million domestically as it nears the end of its second week of distribution. The movie has made $123 million from outside markets, bringing its total worldwide earnings to a little under $215 million.
The film directed by Andy Muschietti and starring the controversial Ezra Miller, traces the story of Barry Allen as he uses the Speed Force to attempt to stop his mother from being killed, but inadvertently changes history in the process.
