Most Underrated Movies Of This Year, Ranked
2021 was the recovery year for the film industry after the global pandemic. But of course, a heavy quantity doesn’t justify the quality, right? This is what the critics had to say. But when it comes to the fans, they really stand by what they love. Be it justifying the first-ever ‘Rotten‘ MCU movie or the ninth entry in a horror franchise, if they like it, they like it. On that note, let’s talk about some of the most underrated movies of this year. Check it out!
1. Nobody
Bob Odenkirk has earned his reputation as a great actor, thanks to his class apart performance in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. But when the trailer for his movie Nobody came out, people called it a high-end parody of John Wick which was not the case. Fans still loved the movie for its action and it’s hard for anyone to imitate Odenkirk or Keanu. Apart from the action, fans fell in love with the background score as well. But of course, the audience is divided as some find it to be overrated as well.
2. The Last Duel
Directed by Riddley Scott, The Last Duel was the onscreen reunion of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck and revolves around a medieval epic. However, the movie bombed at the box office and didn’t attract enough people. The movie didn’t have enough interest in it, supposedly, and the critics were so done with it. But not the fans. Some believe that the movie was criminally underrated and underappreciated. Scott’s second movie, House of Gucci also received a less than average reception.
3. Space Jam: A New Legacy
Space Jam is a cult classic movie and fans were desperately looking forward to Space Jam: A New Legacy. As we’ve seen, sequels do not perform well, the same was for this. A New Legacy didn’t perform well at all and when it came to the reviews, it tanked. The movie was considered to be a huge commercial for Warner Bros. and HBO Max and critics and fans alike didn’t jibe well with this decision. But some fans still think that the movie was hilarious and liked the content. Well, some even liked the Michael B. Jordan twist.
4. Eternals
Now to the talk of the town, Eternals. MCU‘s first-ever movie to be ROTTEN on Rotten Tomatoes was said to have a lot of subplots in just one movie. Well, this is what you’ll have when you try to introduce a bunch of characters in a runtime of fewer than three hours. Eternals was a movie that was more for comic fans because of folklore.
5. The Guilty
Jake Gyllenhall is a solid actor and so was his performance in The Guilty. However, most of the world didn’t even get to know about this movie, it just came and went. The movie is shot mostly in a room and focuses on a police officer who is forced to work in a call centre after being investigated for misconduct. It’s surprising that a movie with 74% on RT hasn’t been seen by people at large. Highly recommended.
