Top Agency Fired Matthew Lawrence For Refusing To Strip For Marvel Director
Matthew Lawrence has recently opened up about his own experience with s*xual harassment in Hollywood, reflecting on the #MeToo movement during an episode of his Brotherly Love podcast.
The actor along with his brothers Joey and Andrew Lawrence, recounted a disturbing encounter with a Marvel director who allegedly asked him to take his clothes off during a meeting.
Mrs. Doubtfire star claims that he lost his agency when he refused to comply with the director’s request and left the hotel room. Lawrence says on the podcast.
“There’s been many times in my life where I’ve been propositioned to get a huge role. I lost my agency because I went to the hotel room where, the actor alleges, a prominent director showed up in his robe, asked me to take my clothes off, said he needed to take Polaroids of me, and said if I did X, Y, and Z, I would be the next Marvel character.”
During the podcast, he spoke about the pressure actors face to engage in inappropriate behavior to secure roles in the industry.
He acknowledged that there have been many instances in his life where he has been asked to do something unethical for a big role. However, Lawrence says that he has always refused to compromise his integrity, even if it meant losing out on an opportunity.
The #MeToo movement has brought to light the majority of s*xual harassment and abuse in Hollywood, with many actors and actresses coming forward to share their experiences.
Lawrence expressed his support for the movement, calling, it “a very good thing.” In past years, several scandals involving s*xual misbehavior have devastated the entertainment industry.

The entertainment industry has been hit by several s*xual misconduct incidents that have revealed a very different side of Hollywood from the glamour usually portrayed in the media.
The investigative pieces published by The New York Times accused disgraced movie producer Harvey Weinstein of s*xual assault and harassment spanning several decades.
Weinstein’s trial and conviction on felony s*x crime and r*pe charges in 2020 was a significant turning point, prompting the Manhattan District Attorney to acknowledge the courage of the survivors who spoke out against him. The attorney stated,
“We thank the court for imposing a sentence that puts s*xual predators and abusive partners in all segments of society on notice. We thank the survivors for their remarkable statements today and indescribable courage over the last two years … Their words took down a predator and put him behind bars, and gave hope to survivors of s*xual violence all across the world.”
The 71-year-old case sparked global movements like #MeToo and #TimesUp, encouraging many others to come forward with stories of their own experiences of misconduct in the industry.
As a result, several actors, production staffers, and individuals shared their stories and shed light on the dark side of the industry. Celebrities like Dylan Farrow have used their platforms to highlight the systemic problem of s*xual abuse and call for change.
While there have been some improvements, there is still a long way to go in addressing the issue in Hollywood.
