Ryan Reynolds is living his best life out of the big screen, as he’s busy preparing for the big summer ahead for his beloved soccer club, Wrexham. The Welsh outfit is owned by Reynolds alongside It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia co-creator Rob McElhenney.

Wrexham is scheduled to face English soccer giants Chelsea and Manchester United this month in North Carolina and San Diego respectively, and considering how regularly both Reynolds and McElhenney attended their team’s games last season, it’s likely they will be among the crowd for these two fixtures.

Blake Lively, his wife, would certainly be happy Reynolds is spending his summer following soccer rather than trying his hands at adventurous activities, because his past experience with the same hasn’t been that great, to say the least.

Ryan Reynolds Reveals His Biggest Fear

Ryan Reynolds is nowadays busy focusing on growing his soccer club and producing the TV series Welcome to Wrexham series based on the same institution on Netflix. As such it’s been a while since his last huge Hollywood project came to the fore.

His last mega gig was Red Notice – released in 2021 – wherein he plays an art thief Nolan Booth and is chased down by agent John Hartley (Dwayne Johnson). Gal Gadot is also part of the star cast, and her character The Bishop, also a thief, forces Booth and Hartley to team up.

Before the release of the movie, the trio sat down with Vanity Fair to talk about their interests and fears. When asked to talk about his biggest fear, Reynolds recalled an incident that left him scarred for life.

“Airplanes. [I’m] not big on airplanes. I’ve had a couple of close calls. I had a sky-diving accident when I was 19, where my chut [parachute] didn’t open. And that is where it started,” the 46-year-old said.

But as always, the Deadpool star made sure to lighten the mood of the room, adding he had a reserve parachute but the only reason he didn’t open it was because he thought, “I’m not gonna pull my reserve, cause then I’ll have no chutes left after that.”

Finally, Reynolds used the chute and landed safely, albeit far away from the intended spot. The incident also led to him developing a fear of heights, which then transferred to a fear of airplanes – his main answer to the question on the show.

His soccer investment has worked wonders and the valuation of his and McElhenney’s investment in Wrexham has skyrocketed following the club’s promotion to England’s fourth division of football.

The Proposal actor also pocketed significant sums on the back of the sale of Mint Mobile to T-Mobile for $1.35 billion in 2023 and the sale of Aviation Gin in 2020 for over $600m. He had considerable shares in both ventures.

As far as movies are concerned, his biggest payday came from his iconic portrayal of a chill superhero in Deadpool, where he made $40 million from the two-part franchise.
