The tragic news of the Canadian internet rapper Lil Tay’s death has left the world shocked. Popularly known as Lil Tay, the teenage influencer’s real name was Claire Hope. The tragic news was confirmed by the management of the influencer to the reputed media outlet Variety.

She came into the media spotlight after posting controversial videos on reputed social media platforms like Twitter, currently known as X, YouTube, and Instagram. She used to initiate arguments with reputed content creators on social media platforms. The unfortunate and untimely demise of the influencer has created waves on the internet.

How Did Lil Tay Become An Internet Sensation?

Like many other micro-influencers on social media, Claire Hope popularly known as Lil Tay’s story also began with a fabricated beef in 2018. She rose to prominence by initiating a verbal spat with the American YouTuber Bryan Le popularly known as RiceGum. He had come up with a video in which he was seen roasting the Canadian teenager alleging that she had bullied his sister. The video went on to earn a thousand followers to Lil Tay in 2018.

She became an internet sensation with a video of rapper Danielle Bregoli and internet star Victoria Waldrip having an altercation at the food court of a mall in California, in which Lil Tay was seen for a short period of time. She is seen asking Danielle Bregoli what’s up and even calls her a bi*ch. The footage went viral and made Lil Tay an internet sensation with over one million followers.

With her newfound fame, Lil Tay became the undisputed queen of controversy on social media. She used to brag about phones, cars, a bed that is way more expensive than a Lamborghini, five houses, and drugs.

In one of the videos, she even stated- “I will be smoking dope, b*tch!” 

The self-proclaimed youngest flexer of the century was also known for collaborating with rappers like XXXTentacion and Chief Keef and even drew a huge amount of attention for using the N-word. She was embroiled in a custody war between her parents Angela Tian and Christopher Hope in late 2018.

The attention-grabbing post of Lily Tay on Instagram in 2018 made her fans curious about her situation. According to the Instagram story, the 9-year-old Canadian influencer was under house arrest. She had captioned her story as #FreeLilTay. Her Instagram story read as “Lil Tay is on house arrest and got her phone taken away,”  which included a reminder that she would be back soon.

Lil Tay’s unexpected demise has shocked her fans around the world. With 3.3 million followers on her Instagram page, she was on the path to becoming one of the most popular influencers in the world. Her parents made a public statement on her social media handle announcing about her untimely death. The post read as-

“It is with a heavy heart that we share the devastating news of our beloved Claire’s sudden and tragic passing.  We have no words to express the unbearable loss and indescribable pain. This outcome was entirely unexpected and has left us all in shock. Her brother’s passing adds an even more unimaginable depth to our grief.”

Her brother Jason Tian’s cause of death is still under investigation. Not much has been revealed about the rapper’s unfortunate death.  The family of Lil Tay has demanded privacy during one of the toughest times. The story is still in development.
