Netflix Getting Sued after Big Bang Theory’s Kunal Nayyar Called $34M Rich Indian Actress a “Leprous Pr*stitute”
It appears that Netflix has come under fire after an Indian political analyst Mithun Vijay Kumar requested the streaming giant to remove one of the episodes of the network’s hit show, The Big Bang Theory from the platform. Raj Koothrapalli, a character played by Kunal Nayyar, insults one of the Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit in the first episode of season two. In the legal notice, Vijay Kumar argues that the character from the series made remarks about the actress are not only offensive but also defamatory.
Netflix Getting Sued For The Big Bang Theory’s Episode
According to his legal notice such content may have a negative effect on society, especially if it helps to perpetuate harmful stereotypes against women. He said that the content promotes sexism and misogyny, which are not acceptable in any form. As per reports, the legal notice requires Netflix to remove the episode from the series otherwise he will take further legal action for encouraging discrimination against women.
The Big Bang Theory on CBS, a retro multi-camera comedy about four men and three women who get along, was the most popular sitcom since Friends. Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady created the series and had a 12-season run, debuting in 2007 and ending in 2019.
Mithun Vijay Kumar Sued Netflix For a Defamatory Remark On Bollywood Actress
The legal notice has been sent to Netflix’s Mumbai office. Mithun Vijay Kumar has said that he will take legal action against Netflix if the streaming giant does not respond or complies with the requests made in the notice. Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit is compared to another actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in one of the episodes of a 2007 American sitcom in the series one of the leading characters referred to Dixit as a “le*rous pr**titute.”

Mithun Vijay Kumar also tweeted his statement,
“Recently, I came across an episode of the show Big Bang Theory on Netflix where Kunal Nayyar’s character uses an offensive and derogatory term to refer to the legendary Bollywood actress @MadhuriDixit. As a fan of Madhuri Dixit since childhood, I was deeply disturbed by the dialogue.”
He continued,
“It is important to hold companies like Netflix accountable for their actions and to ensure that they are sensitive to the cultural values and sentiments of the communities they serve. ”
He further said,
“I was deeply troubled by the use of a derogatory term in one of the shows on Netflix – Big Bang Theory. This term was used in reference to the acclaimed actress Madhuri Dixit, and it was not only offensive and deeply hurtful but also showed a lack of regard for her dignity.”
The Big Bang Theory 12 seasons are available on Netflix.
