The hip-hop legend Dr. Dre‘s health struggles journey started in 2021 when he had been hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. The rapper was diagnosed with a brain aneurysm at that time. Little did he know, he felt an excruciating pain behind his right ear, an indicator of the aneurysm.

However, his health crisis intensified as the initial aneurysm led to three debilitating strokes during his hospital stay. The consecutive strokes, occurring within two weeks, underscored the gravity of his health crisis.

Dr. Dre told on SiriusXM’s This Life of Mine with James Corden,

“Next thing you know, I’m blacking out. I’m in and out of consciousness, and I ended up in the ICU. I was there for two weeks.  “I’m hearing the doctors coming in and saying, ‘You don’t know how lucky you are.'”

Surprisingly, Dr. Dre never failed to maintain his commitment to healthy lifestyle choices. But in a twist of fate, he was diagnosed with high blood pressure, a mostly incurable health issue.

Dr. Dre further stated,

“I had no idea that I had high blood pressure or anything like that. “I’m lifting weights, I’m running, I’m doing everything I can to keep myself healthy. High blood pressure in Black men, that’s just what it is. They call it the silent killer. You just have no idea.”

In the aftermath of his brain aneurysm and subsequent strokes, Dr. Dre’s perspective on life underwent a profound transformation. The Grammy winner rapper cherishes each passing day with gratitude as a precious gift.

Dr Dre said,

“I don’t know that it had a significant change on what I’m doing in the future or how I want to live my life. I’m not saying, ‘OK, I’m just gonna go f—— crazy because who knows if the lights are gonna come out tomorrow,’” he clarified. “I don’t think about it like that. I just think it was something that just happened to me. It definitely makes you appreciate being alive.”

Dr. Dre previously conveyed his sentiments during his hospitalization through an Instagram post shared on January 5, 2021. Dre wrote,

“Thanks to my family, friends and fans for their interest and well wishes,” he wrote at the time. “I’m doing great and getting excellent care from my medical team. I will be out of the hospital and back home soon. Shout out to all the great medical professionals at Cedars. One Love!!”

Although Dr. Dre has since emerged from the ordeal in a stable condition, he remains aware of the uncertainty of life. For Dr. Dre, the key takeaway from his ordeal is the importance of cultivating gratitude for the gift of life and recognizing that every moment is an opportunity to embrace one’s existence.
