The Order is an upcoming crime thriller flick directed by Justin Kurzel. It’s said to be based on true events as described in the 1989 non-fiction book The Silent Brotherhood by Kevin Flynn and Gary Gerhardt. Actors Nicholas Hoult and Jude Law are headlining the movie along with Marc Meron and Tye Sheridan.

Reportedly, at the Venice Film Festival, Hoult told the press that he was asked by the director to stalk Law without him knowing. Since Hoult plays the role of the leader of an organized group dealing in criminal activities, he had to maintain an unlawful and powerful aura whereas Law plays an FBI officer tasked with investigating bank robberies and heists. Moreover, Hoult claimed that he and Law did not speak for over four weeks to keep their distance and reflect the animosity on screen.

The movie further sheds light on the different ideologies harbored by different groups in a country or the world at large. While some people agree to disagree, others feel it’s their job to make everyone agree with what they believe is right. Hoult is leading a far-right group of white supremacists in The Order. It will further delve into the roles and responsibilities of the law enforcement team to curb such criminal activities and their crusade against the same.

At the ensuing press conference for the movie, the cast of The Order spoke about how the movie fits into today’s political climate where extremes tend to stretch further and people are forced to side with an ideology. Director Kurzel further adds how he always looked forward to creating such a movie that can bring this debate to the forefront. He reiterated,

I think we live at a time now that was reflected in the film, where there is division, and there’s a lot of conversation about the future and about ideologies. The film was about an ideology that’s incredibly dangerous and how it can quickly take seed…in those that feel invisible or unheard…I think that’s a timeless thing, not only in America, but in Australia too [where the filmmaker is from].

The other actors agreed and put forth their views as well. Particularly actress Jurnee Smollett shared how America’s complex history deserves to be told delicately and sensitively. At the same time, it’s crucial to hold a mirror to society and let people reflect on the actions that affect an entire nation at large.

The Order will be released in theatres on December 6, 2024.
