Trouble does not seem to be ready to leave the rap paradise, and this time Nicki Minaj is also involved. Earlier this year, Kendrick Lamar and Drake traded bars in a highly-publicized feud between the two in which the former was claimed to have come out at the top. Not so long ago, it was announced that Lamar would be performing the headlining act at the Superbowl Halftime Show.
While this is an obvious win for the Poetic Justice singer against Drake, some artists have expressed their disapproval of the decision. This includes popular female rapper Nicki Minaj who has raised concerns about Jay-Z intentionally trying to undermine Lil Wayne by giving Lamar the chance to have the Super Bowl stage as the first act. What has to be noted here is that she once took relationship advice from the 24-time Grammy winner.
Nicki Minaj Once Seeked Relationship Advice from Jay-Z and His Wife Beyonce
Jay-Z and Beyoncé make for one of the most powerful and beloved couples in the music industry. The duo first met each other when they collaborated on 2002’s 03 Bonnie & Clyde, the lead single of Jay-Z’s seventh studio album The Blueprint 2: The Gift & The Curse.
They went on to collaborate on several other songs and had a low-profile relationship until they got married in 2008. The couple had their first child, Blue Ivy Carter in early 2012. They are one of the most influential couples in the industry so, it seemed understandable that Minaj thought they would give relationship advice.
Back in 2015, when the Anaconda singer was dating fellow rapper Meek Mills, she admitted that she had taken advice from the parents of three (via Yahoo News).
After our show at [Brooklyn’s] Barclays Center [in October], we had dinner together. They were so giving with advice. I love them so much. It was just a beautiful conversation to have with people we love and we look up to as a couple. They’re so strong.
Minaj’s relationship with Mills ended in 20017 and so did her camaraderie with Jay-Z by the looks of her recent tweets that seem to target the Song Cry singer over Lamar getting chosen as the one to headline the Super Bowl singer.
Nicki Minaj Is Seemingly Targeting Jay-Z As She Defends Lil Wayne
Amidst her Pink Friday World 2 Tour, the Super Bass singer has openly spoken out about the apparent injustice to the Young Money leader regarding Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans. Her target in all of this seems to be Jay-Z, a co-producer of the NFL Halftime Show. She went on a rant on Monday afternoon.
Even rapper Birdman chimed in to address the matter. That said, Minaj seems to have taken real offense to Jay-Z’s role in having Lamar instead of Wayne on the show. Some other artists have also spoken about this.
