- Nicole Kidman teams up with Antonio Banderas and Harris Dickinson in the upcoming erotic-thriller 'Babygirl'.
- 'Babygirl' continues Kidman's trend of starring in age-gap romances, as she previously worked with 21 years younger Zac Efron.
- 'Babygirl' is about a powerful CEO played by Kidman in a secret affair with a young intern set against a backdrop of the corporate world.
Nicole Kidman is back with her upcoming movie Babygirl, and it is already gaining much attention. The Oscar-winner is teaming up with Antonio Banderas for the upcoming A24 erotic thriller.
Babygirl looks to explore the complexities of power, sexuality, and workplace dynamics. Kidman will be playing a high-powered CEO who gets into an affair with a much younger intern, and it is not the first time she has taken on this kind of role where she is romancing a much younger actor.
Nicole Kidman and the Age Gap Romance
It looks like Nicole Kidman is once again pushing boundaries on screen. In Babygirl, she is paired with Harris Dickinson who is 29 years younger than her and it is not a new experience for Kidman. This age gap is quite similar to Kidman’s recent Netflix film A Family Affair.
Kidman has already done films like The Paperboy and A Family Affair with Zac Efron. In the 2012 film The Paperboy, Kidman was 44 and Efron was 25. Their on-screen chemistry was also liked by the audience, and Kidman was praised for her bold performance. Fast forward to A Family Affair, and Kidman is now 57, again paired with Efron, who is now 36.
Kidman’s co-star in Babygirl Harris Dickinson is a 28-year-old rising star known for his roles in movies like Beach Rats and The Iron Claw, and his pairing with Kidman is expected to boost his profile even more.
Age-gap romances in movies have always been a topic of discussion. Some love it and see it as a way to break stereotypes. Some are not so sure. But either way, it gets people talking about the movie or the project, and in the movie business, that is often the purpose.
And it looks like Kidman is all for it. In an interview with People, she talked about how it is somewhat generalized when the actor is older than the actress but not so much when it is the other way. She said,
We’ve had it from way back with older men and younger women, that’s just always been the norm. The problem is we’ve not had the equivalent from all different viewpoints, with women telling the stories.
It is quite clear that Kidman’s willingness to work with younger actors reflects her commitment to her craft. Moreover, the age-gap romances add an extra layer and depth to the story as well as the characters due to societal judgments and personal insecurities.
Cast, Plot, and Story of Babygirl
Babygirl is not just an average office romance movie. Halina Reijn is coming back after her success with Bodies Bodies Bodies. She is both writing and directing the movie,
As far as the plot and story are concerned, Kidman plays a powerful CEO who starts a secret affair with a young intern played by Harris Dickinson. Antonio Banderas is in this drama as Kidman’s husband and it looks like a love triangle is happening here.
Sophie Wilde, who is known for her performance in movies like Talk to Me, plays an assistant who is watching all this drama happening in front of her. Moreover, Jean Reno is also on board as a rival business executive. The cast of the movie looks promising.

A24 recently shared the first look of the film announcing its premiere at the Venice Film Festival. The image perfectly shows the intimacy between Kidman and Dickinson and it gives off the message that the movie is going to explore power dynamics and workplace sexuality.
Venice Film Festival artistic director Alberto Barbera also mentioned the film in an interview with Variety saying it’s “about a sadomasochistic relationship within an American corporation.” However, according to him, the difference in this film is that the ending is different from what audiences had expected in older films with similar themes.
Babygirl will be released in theaters on December 20, 2024.
