No Way Home: BTS Clip Shows How Andrew Garfield’s Return Came Together
Warning: This article may contain spoilers for No Way Home!
After months of telling everyone who asked him if he was present in No Way Home, Andrew Garfield appeared in the movie, to almost no one’s surprise. The actor, who has already starred in two Amazing Spider-Man films by Marc Webb and whose planned trilogy was cut short early when Sony decided to team up with Marvel Studios to finally introduce Tom Holland’s Spider-Man to the MCU instead, turned out to be one of the best parts of the film, and fans have started lobbying to bring him back again ever since, either in The Amazing Spider-Man 3 or in some Marvel film down the line.

However before Garfield could even begin his redemption tour, they had to figure out the most perfect way to reveal his character onscreen. Ashley Morgan, who had served as an assistant director to Jon Watts on No Way Home, shared a look at the process, with co-assistant David Venghaus guiding the cast through the whole scene.

In the context of the film, this given scene takes place at Ned’s grandmother’s house, where MJ and Ned use Dr. Strange’s magical paraphernalia to find Peter Parker. Dealing with old Spider-Man villains from other universes, Peter has recently suffered a tragedy, where nobody knows where he really is, when Ned ends up opening up a portal after he wished he could see Peter…and in walks Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker, who had been stranded in the Marvel Cinematic Universe trying to find his doppelganger for a day or something. If you look closely at the video in the tweet, you can see that Garfield is standing in the room’s corner, so this is likely the second half of a shot, with the first shot being an empty room, before Garfield enters and the Spider-Verse widens even further.
In No Way Home, Peter Parker squares off against old Spider-Man villains from the past — but not the ones he has seen before. Instead, he battles the Green Goblin, Dr. Octopus, Electro, and more.
Following the events of Endgame, Loki, and What If…?, Marvel’s multiverse seems to be wide open more than ever before, having some fans expecting to see Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man, as well as Tobey Maguire’s web-slinger, share the screen with MCU’s Tom Holland. After the commercial success of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, there’s hardly a more commonsense character for Marvel to begin exploring its infinite Earths with.
