While promoting the upcoming No Way Home, star Tom Holland joked about how seriously Marvel Studios treats spoiler leakages, even going on to compare himself to a member of DC’s Suicide Squad. Tom Holland has been playing MCU’s Peter Parker since the year 2016 when his version of Spider-Man first appeared in Captain America: Civil War. Tom is now all set to appear as Spider-Man once again in No Way Home, which picks up right after the events of Far From Home with Spider-Man’s secret identity being revealed to the world.

The film brings together a plethora of stars from new and old Marvel movies, including Jamie Foxx’s Electro, Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock, and Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange), alongside a few more familiar faces from across the Marvel Cinematic Universe. No Way Home is a highly anticipated film that has many fans brimming with excitement, so much so that many of them are overwhelmed by ticket website crashes during the presale release, even causing many sites to crash. This level of excitement shouldn’t really be surprising after No Way Home’s first trailer garnered over 355 million views within its initial 24 hours.

While appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live while promoting Spider-Man: No Way Home, Tom Holland, and his co-stars opened up about their experiences on the set while filming. They also talked to a few young Spider-Man fans, answering questions related to Marvel. One fan even goes on to ask Jacob Batalon (played by Ned Leeds) to spoil the ending of the new movie. Batalon and Holland even joked about the repercussions they might face for revealing Marvel secrets:

Holland: They would probably kill us.

Batalon: Yeah, I think they absolutely have, like, our tracking numbers on us.

Holland: They put a chip in the back on the first one.

Batalon: Yeah, on the back of our heads. And if you can- it’s remote controlled and they blow your head up. So that’s essentially what’s going to happen.

Holland: We’re like the real-life Suicide Squad.

Since Tom Holland has joined the MCU, he has garnered a reputation for accidentally revealing confidential Marvel information, even going on to become a running joke between co-stars and fans alike. The infamously loose-lipped actor has even had scripts for Marvel films that he was acting in kept from him, including Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. However, Holland knows everything about the upcoming Spider-Man film, claiming that he now knows how to not spoil anything. Even after this, it’s quite safe to say that throughout Tom’s spoiler-ridden past, he is very familiar with the consequences of giving out Marvel secrets.

While the above quote is obviously a joke, Marvel does have a huge record of going beyond to keep all their projects a secret. They even hand out fake scripts — or no scripts at all — to the actors. Film actors have been made to film scenes without any given context like in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo even state that this is quite beneficial for the actors so that no plot secrets are accidentally revealed and for fans too, so they don’t get to see film spoilers before its release. While this holds true, it is quite detrimental to the final product, as many people who are involved never get to give their best performance, which is something that removes the quality of the movie.
