Not Beating Stone Cold or John Cena at Wrestlemania, This WWE Moment Will Always Be the Most Special For Dwayne Johnson
Long before stepping into the glamorous world of Hollywood, Dwayne Johnson achieved great success as a WWE wrestler. Much like his well-awarded acting career, the Black Adam star’s almost decade-long career in wrestling brought him several accolades.
Also known by his ring name, The Rock, Johnson is regarded as one of the greatest pro-wrestlers of all time. Beating the likes of John Cena and Stone Cold is one of his most notable victories. But they’re not what are most memorable to The Rock.
Dwayne The Rock Johnson’s Special Moment as a Wrestler
One of the highlights of Dwayne Johnson‘s wrestling has been headlining the biggest event for professional wrestlers, WrestleMania, multiple times. In a recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show Live, Johnson revealed the moment that stands out the most to him in his career as a pro wrestler.
The footballer-turned-wrestler said that his first WrestleMania with Stone Cold Steve Austin is close to his heart. But the second on his list, his last WrestleMania with John Cena left an indelible impression on his memory and marks on his body.
Speaking of the fight on The Pat McAfee Show Live, the former WWE Champion said:
“About ten minutes into this match I take a rock bottom which was my finisher. He gives me that ten minutes into the match and I go up extra high, I start to turn and I over rotate, he drives me down into the match and I hear this [cracking sound], I don’t know what it is and I am laying there and it is 80,000 people in New York and I thought a bone came through my skin.”
The wrestler-turned-actor then shares that any bone had not come through, but he was in terrible pain and the last fight of his career ahead of him.
Dwayne Johnson’s Injury Did Not Stop Him
After getting severely injured, right as the match started, with compromised mobility of the lower half of his body and ruptures into the abdomen, The Rock did not stop the match.
Johnson continued to keep fighting for the better part of half an hour and did not back down from his commitment. He later had to have an emergency triple hernia surgery. But he had to put off his pelvis surgery due to prior commitments to filming the movie Hercules.
Not only did he fight a match severely injured, but he later made his work the priority and delayed a major surgery.
The way to the top is never easy. One can only imagine how much more challenging it can get in a combat sport like wrestling. It’s interesting how Johnson’s special memory is not an exceptional win, which he has many. Rather, it is about his worst injury and how he persevered through it.
