Back in 2012, Sacha Baron Cohen was rumored to be banned from the Oscars event as he appeared in a very controversial man’s attire and the character he played in the movie The Dictator on the red carpet. Baron Cohen planned to appear as a Saddam Hussein/Muammar Gaddafi-style autocrat which wasn’t allowed at the Oscars. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences pulled Baron Cohen’s tickets for the event until it received a promise that he would not turn up in character. The news then went viral and people started believing that the actor was banned from the Oscars of that year and was facing issues but the organizers later denied they had imposed an outright ban on Cohen and he wasn’t banned from the Oscars. It was just the attire that led to the controversy and speculation that Cohen was banned.

The Eleven O’Clock Show was the one that gained Cohen immense appreciation for the character of Ali G that aired from 1998 to 2000.
