Not Only Liam Hemsworth but James Bond Star Daniel Craig Almost Bagged Chris Hemsworth’s Iconic Marvel Role
Chris Hemsworth’s rugged good looks, charismatic on-screen presence, and undeniable acting talent have made him the star he is today. The role that changed it all for him was Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Through his portrayal of the Norse God Hemsworth got worldwide recognition and became one of the most sought-after actors in the film industry.
However, Hemsworth was not the studio’s first preference to play Thor. There were other actors who were seriously considered for the role, most notably Hemsworth’s younger brother Liam Hemsworth. And another shocking name for contenders for Thor is James Bond star Daniel Craig.
Thor Almost Went to the Other Hemsworth
Hollywood is a land of hits or misses. Be it movies or stars, some end up getting raging success, and others have to taste the bitterness of failure. Between these extremes lies the fascinating concepts of almost. A large proportion of those who enter the film industry with dreams of making it big, end up in the almosts.
And interestingly enough, most who do make it big, often do it in the way they least expected. Fate just has a different route sometimes. This is what happened when Marvel Studios started to look for actors to play, the beloved superhero Thor.
Liam Hemsworth, known for the Hunger Games series, almost played the Norse God in the Marvel movies. He had made it to the final rounds of casting but did not make it because of his age. Speaking on the matter, Chris Hemsworth had mentioned (via People):
“They were like, ‘Look, he’s great, but he’s a bit young.’ My manager then said, ‘Well, he does have an older brother,’ which was me. I came back in, re-auditioned a few times.”
It is strange to imagine if it were Liam Hemsworth instead of Chris Hemsworth who would have gotten the part. But hey at least Thor still would have been a charismatic Australian with bewitching eyes.
Daniel Craig was Almost Thor
Daniel Craig was another one of the long list of actors who were considered to play the son of Odin. It would have been an ultimate power trip for the British actor to play such dynamic roles. Having to play James Bond and Thor, with both projects were set out to be multiple-film contracts.
That is actually the reason Craig stated why he denied the offer he got from Marvel. Craig would have made a great Thor. His action-packed movies as James Bond and impeccable comic timing in Knives Out are a testament to that. Certainly, no one would have minded had Craig made a different choice. Some might even claim it would have been a better one.
