For the MCU enthusiasts, the finale of Loki 2 must have brought tears and emotions. However, what’s more interesting to note is that this isn’t something new for comic lovers.

Loki series
Loki

In the recent Loki season 2, we witnessed how he transformed from being the God of mischief to the God of stories played by Tom Hiddleston. But what might blow your mind is that this wasn’t his first encounter with the tree that helped him become the God of Stories. The comic book Journey Into Mystery #85 tells how Loki’s father trapped him inside a tree to cause no trouble. So, this depicts the connection between the new storyline and Loki’s history from the comic books.

Loki’s Comic Book Roots That Led Him to Become MCU’s God of Stories

Ask a comic book fan and they will define Loki’s humorous and noteworthy encounters with a tree in the books. In the Disney+ Season 2, the MCU’s skilled sorcerer went from being the God of Mischief to the God of Stories by holding the branches of Yggdrasil or the World Tree to save the timeline. In the later comics, Loki confessed to being trapped in a tree often. Tom Hiddleston’s Loki 2 ended by depicting the connection between the character’s comic roots and the recent events in the MCU and showcasing that his journey started with a tree and ended with it.

However, he’s one of the most famous and complex characters in the comic books and the Marvel Cinematic Universe who’s often seen creating troubles for the Avengers or aligning with them for a greater cause. So, we doubt if there’s more to witness about the master manipulator or if his arc has finally ended. Loki ended up being the God that his father Odin, mother Frigga, and brother Thor would be proud of.

Queries about Loki 3 began even before the finale hit on our screen. This describes how fans are eager to know if Marvel is planning to make another season or if Loki 2 marks the end. Writer Eric Martin in an interview with Cinema Blend shares that this is how he wanted to create Loki’s arc through two seasons. He added:

“We approached this as like two halves of a book. Season one, first half. In season two, we close the book on Loki and the TVA. Where it goes beyond that, I don’t know. I just wanted to tell a full and complete story across those two seasons.”

However, this does not mean that there isn’t a chance for further stories involving Loki to be explored as the producer Kevin Feige was asked in an interview with Variety if there’s any way for Loki to rejoin the Marvel Cinematic Universe, to which he replied: “That’s the hope. I don’t want to — yeah. I think the sun shining on Loki and Thor once again has always been the priority of the story we’re telling.” Giving us a ray of hope that we might witness something but not too soon.
