For more than 40 years, Hollywood star Harrison Ford has served as the face of the legendary Indiana Jones franchise. In Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which was released on June 30, 2023, he made his last appearance in the Indiana Jones franchise. The final chapter of Indiana Jones 5 did not, however, come to a satisfying conclusion because of a major mistake. Despite Ford’s amazing journey as Indiana Jones, this hiccup somewhat overshadowed his final installment in the billion-dollar franchise.

Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones 5 had a major issue

Harrison Ford, the guy we all know and love as Han Solo from Star Wars, has been our Indiana Jones for ages. In five Indiana Jones films, including the award-winning Raiders of the Lost Ark, we have seen him crack his whips and uncover ancient treasures. The movie Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which was supposed to give our hero a proper send-off, came out in June 2023. But the truth is that it was a little disappointing. The excessive length of the film may have marred the quality of the movie. It stretched on for over two and a half hours and that’s way longer than any other Indiana Jones movie.

The story was a little too known and gave the feeling of deja vu. There was also a lot of action that felt repetitive. The thing about Indiana Jones movies is they’re usually light, entertaining adventures, and this one simply went on. Not because it was horrible, but because it made you question whether taking all that additional time was actually necessary. Ford could have received the most epic send-off with Indiana Jones 5, as the veteran actor gave it his all even at the age of 81.

Indiana Jones 5 performed poorly at the box office

The most recent Indiana Jones film didn’t do well financially. It was a little unexpected considering how successful Indiana Jones films often are at the box office. Harrison Ford and the renowned Indiana Jones series were huge investments for Lucasfilm, but it appears that their large bet didn’t pay off. In total, they spent $300 million making the film alone, not including the additional $100 million they spent on advertising. That enormous sum of money contributed to Indiana Jones 5‘s underwhelming box office performance. Harrison Ford, who is a wonderful actor, found this to be somewhat disappointing.

When Lucasfilm agreed to have Harrison Ford return as Indiana Jones, they most likely didn’t anticipate this underwhelming outcome. They were in a difficult situation at the time since they needed to make a lot of money just to break even. Despite the fact that the previous four Indiana Jones films were all huge box office successes, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny just fell short of Disney’s lofty expectations. But there’s still a chance they might make some money down the road when people watch it on streaming platforms or buy it online.
