One Piece: Are Joyboy and Sun God Nika Two Different Characters? – Explained
Despite the Golden Week break for Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump manga publication magazine, fans were treated to spoilers for One Piece‘s upcoming chapter #1114. These spoilers come at an incredibly invigorating time for creator, Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece, considering the latest revelation with Dr. Vegapunk revealing new information about the Void Century, Joy Boy, and Sun God Nika.
What’s particularly exciting about the latter two points is that, according to the latest One Piece spoilers, fans were under the misconception that the two characters are seemingly related. While official translations could dispute the claims, it seems as though the series has all but confirmed that Joy Boy and Nika are two different people.
Joy Boy and Nika Are Two Separate Entities
One Piece chapter #1114 revealed that Nika is a myth passed down through generations, while Joy Boy is a significant historical figure as the first pirate of the Grand Line. However, there could be a bigger connection between the two, regardless of Joy Boy having the Devil Fruit that originated from Nika. Joy Boy could be the apostle of Sun God Nika with the duty passed on to him to free the slaves.
Nika, or the Sun God, is a mythical creature who is famous among slaves. This deity has a special place among the Elbafian and Buccaneer races. Nika is praised as a deity who would appear one day to free the slaves from enslavement. Nika’s powers are still a mystery as his silhouette appears to be holding a sword and a spear.
Bartholomew Kuma revealed one of the deity’s powers: the figure had a stretchy body that allowed him to fight in every possible manner. This ability is the same as displayed by the protagonist of One Piece, Monkey D. Luffy. Moreover, it was revealed earlier that the actual Devil Fruit that Luffy consumed is the Hito Hito no Mi Devil Fruit, Model: Nika. This revelation means that this particular Devil Fruit emerged from the Sun God, Nika.
New Revelations In Chapter #1114 Sparks Theory Among Fans
In Chapter #1114, Dr. Vegapunk revealed that Joy Boy was the first person to inherit the Hito Hito no Mi Devil Fruit. Moreover, this chapter gave the first hint about Joy Boy as the first pirate of the Grand Line. Vegapunk further disclosed that Joy Boy lived during the Void Century, making fans wonder about Joy Boy’s purpose during that time.
@cr7_ig I am starting to think this straw hat may actually belong to sun god Nika of elbaf and not Joy boy , unless Joy boy was a buccaneer . Perhaps Joy boy is a mix of an elbaf giant (Nika) and a human ? pic.twitter.com/I5vbfvexF7

I still believe Joyboy is Sun god nika

Dr. Vegapunk also hypothesizes that the sea level will rise due to earthquakes, while St. Saturn continues his search for the broadcasting transponders in order to destroy them and enters the “Mother Flame.” However, what shook the fandom to the core was Vegapunk’s revelation that Joy Boy was someone who was born 900 years ago in an advanced kingdom.
He further explained that Joy Boy was someone with a body that could stretch and struggle “like the Sun God Nika of Elbaf”, thus clearly implying that Joy Boy and Nika are two different entities. Up until this point, most fans were under the impression that the two were the same. Fans took to X to address this big reveal and popped up with several theories.
This also makes the upcoming Elbaf arc even more important, as it will give an insight into Sun God Nika and the lore surrounding this mysterious figure. Likewise, it would also explain if the two lived at the same time in the series’ history, which doesn’t really seem like a possibility, but only the next chapter will reveal the mystery.
One Piece is available to read via VIZ Media. The series can be read by the fans for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app.
