One Piece: What is Future Sight? – Rarest Ability of Observation Haki That’s Only Confirmed to Be Used by 4 Characters So Far
For the longest time, fans of One Piece believed that consuming powerful Devil Fruits was the only way to attain powers. But it was proven wrong by Kaido when he confirmed that Haki is the strongest power in One Piece. There are three categories of Haki: Kenbunshoku, Busoshoku, and Haoshoku Haki.
In the One Piece world, Observation Haki, also known as Kenbunshoku Haki (Color of Observation Haki), is the more common type of Haki. But mastering Kenbunshoku Haki is a different ball game. Typically, it’s used to defend oneself from attacks, but highly skilled individuals can also utilize it to see into the future. This particular skill is known as Future Sight.
Only four characters so far have managed to awaken the Future Sight, considering the ridiculous amount of power it grants to its users.
Monkey D. Luffy
As the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates, and one of the Yonkos, Luffy had to face many powerful characters on his journey, who helped him mature as a fighter. Earlier, Luffy was completely dependent on his powers from the Devil Fruit, but he has evolved a lot since.
Luffy can use all three types of Haki after his training under Silvers Rayleigh. However, it was only after he reached Whole Cake Island that he could employ the more advanced Haki forms. Luffy successfully awakened his Future Sight during his fight with Charlotte Katakuri. It was only due to this awakening that he was able to take down the most formidable Sweet Commander.
Luffy’s grasp over the Future Sight became more proficient during the Wano Country arc. By avoiding some of Kaido’s crucial blows with the help of Future Sight, he cleared the path for his final triumph over the Yonko.
Shanks
One of the strongest characters in One Piece, Shanks is the Chief of the Red-Hair Pirates. As a former member of the Roger Pirates, Shanks was highly influenced by Roger’s ideologies. Like his late captain, Shanks also doesn’t have a Devil Fruit. Instead, he relies on his mastery over all forms of Haki. Shanks’ control over his Haki is on a whole other level, making him different from the other Haki users. He has mastered all three forms of Haki.
Although Shanks is well-known for his mastery of Haoshoku Haki, he also possesses decent Kenbunshoku Haki. Shanks utilized his Kenbunshoku Haki to glimpse into the future during his battle with Eustass Kid. He then used Divine Departure to dispatch Kid right away. By using his Haoshoku Haki to stop others from using Future Sight, Shanks also enjoys a significant advantage over other users of the power. This makes Shanks a formidable opponent.
Charlotte Katakuri
One of the Sweet Commanders of the Big Mom Pirates, Charlotte Katakuri is a fearsome opponent. Katakuri was extremely proud of his undefeated fighting record, and his siblings were certain that no one could beat him in a fight.
Katakuri consumed the Mochi Mochi no Mi, a unique Devil Fruit akin to Paramecia. It enabled him to transform his body into mochi and use it to build various structures. It is a unique ability and his control over the Devil Fruit power made him far more superior than other characters.
However, it is his mastery over Haki that makes him far more dangerous. Katakuri was the first person to employ the advanced version of Kenbunshoku Haki, and he was proficient in all three types of Haki. Katakuri had a clear advantage over his rivals thanks to its assistance in seeing into the future. Katakuri almost killed Luffy with his use of Future Sight; the Straw Hat survived only because he awakened the power himself.
Kaido
Kaido’s name is enough to strike fear in the minds of the even most powerful character. Few individuals in the series were even capable of hurting him, much less beating him. At a very young age, Kaido was exposed to combat and battle after being drafted against his will. His strength gained him notoriety, but the people he fought for attempted to sell him to the World Government.
Linlin gave Kaidou the rare Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit, the Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu, which allows him to transform into an azure dragon. Kaido’s dragon form almost covered the entire sky above Kuri. Kaido barely showed interest in anything outside of constant warfare, as such, the fact that Kaido possessed the most advanced forms of all three Haki was not shocking.
Kaido used Future Sight in his battle with Luffy for a short while. Because he was sure that his unbreakable physique could survive any form of attack, he didn’t use it too much.
