Drake and Kendrick Lamar reigniting their feud from years ago was certainly not on anyone’s bingo card this year. However, once it began, everyone knew that there was no going back so they did the best they could do: picked sides and hyped up the artist supported. The feud seems to have come to a standstill for now, but there is no telling when the lyrical volcano will erupt again.

Recently, Common with whom the Energy rapper had a feud about a decade ago opened up about how their beef was resolved when the latter’s father Dennis Graham decided to swoop in. If he were to do so again, perhaps this ugly battle between Lamar and Drake would end for once and all.

The rap industry has seen some rather great battles such as the ones between Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z and Nas, and Eminem and Machine Gun Kelly. The most recent one between K. Dot and Drizzy has also turned out to be one for the history books of the hip-hop scene.

Over a decade ago, Drake had a feud with Common which began when the latter seemingly called the Nonstop rapper “soft” on the third track Sweet of his ninth album. Later, he confirmed that it was in fact about Drizzy, which led to the release of Stay Schemin’. The remix of this song from the Testify rapper made the feud very real.

Despite all that went down between them, the two called a truce upon Dennis Graham’s insistence. In a recent interview on Drink Champs, Common said:

I eventually saw Drake face to face and I was at a point where I was like, ‘wassup?’ and we had some words and then his father (Dennis Graham), who was there, was like, ‘y’all need to squash this.’

Common said that since this was an elderly person speaking to him, he agreed to move on from the feud. Seeing as Lamar and Drake have not always been enemies, there might still be hope for the two to make up and at least be on civil terms instead of hurling insults at one another.

Drizzy and Lamar were on friendly terms when starting out in the industry. Lamar was even featured on the OVO founder’s 2011 album Take Care. Next year, A$AP Rocky and Lamar were the opening acts for the Club Paradise Tour. Later that year, Drake and K. Dot were featured on Rocky’s Fuckin’ Problems and even collaborated on the track Poetic Justice.

Drake and Lamar’s feud began in 2012 when the latter aimed at the Controlla singer on Big Sean’s Control. It escalated with the release of Drake and J. Cole’s track First Person Shooter in October last year. The Blacker the Berry rapper retaliated months later on Future & Metro Boomin’s Like That. They kept going back and forth for almost two months, but there was no clear winner.
