The Golden Globe Awards earlier this month celebrated winners like Adrien Brody, Demi Moore, Zoe Saldana, and Kieran Culkin in the Best Actor/Actress and Best Supporting Actor/Actress categories. With the Oscar nomination announcements just around the corner, here’s a look at five stars who could earn their first-ever nod.

Mikey Madison

Mikey Madison‘s titular role as a young s*x worker in Sean Baker’s romantic comedy-drama Anora sparked conversations across the internet. She earned great critical acclaim for her performance in the movie and even earned a nomination at the Golden Globes.

Madison won the Breakthrough Performance Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival and also has a nomination at the Critics’ Choice Awards. So, there is a good chance that she will be nominated in the Best Actress category at the Oscars. Her movie premiered at the Cannes Film Festival where it won the Palme d’Or and is Baker’s highest-grossing film so far.

Kieran Culkin

After his win at the Golden Globes in the Best Supporting Actor category for his performance in the movie A Real Pain, Kieran Culkin is definitely a frontrunner at the Oscars. The Culkin brothers are known for being great actors and Kieran Culkin’s track record in recent years continues to prove exactly that.

Culkin began regaining the attention of the mainstream audience again in 2018 with his role in the HBO black-comedy drama series, Succession. That role alone earned him several accolades. His performance in Jesse Eisenberg’s buddy comedy-drama A Real Pain has also won millions of hearts.

Jeremy Strong

Jeremy Strong is a strong contender in the Best Supporting Actor category at the Academy Awards. He was nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category at the Golden Globes for his performance in Sebastian Stan’s The Apprentice. While Stan bagged the Golden Globe award for Best Actor in a Comedy/Musical, Strong lost out to his former co-star, Kieran Culkin.

Strong is a Yale University graduate who has portrayed several real-life figures in historical drama films over the years. He played the role of attorney Roy Cohn in the biographical film The Apprentice, which sheds light on Donald Trump’s life as a real estate businessman in the ’70s and ’80s and his relationship with Cohn.

Karla Sofía Gascón

Karla Sofía Gascón has earned wide attention for her award-winning turn as the titular character in the Jacques Audiard musical comedy Emilia Pérez, which attracted a lot of criticism after winning the Golden Globe award for Best Picture in the Musical or Comedy category.

Gascón is the first transgender woman to win the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actress, even though she shared the award with her co-stars Zoe Saldana and Selena Gomez. She also won the European Film Award for Best Actress. So, it is quite likely that she will earn a nomination at the Academy Awards too, making her the first transgender woman to receive this honor.

Demi Moore

Demi Moore‘s performance in the body horror film, The Substance, has marked her comeback into the awards race stronger than a ’90s trend. She made history at the Golden Globes earlier this month by winning her first major award, as the Best Actress in the Musical or Comedy category, in 45 years of her career.

Moore even delivered an empowering speech on winning the award. The odds are definitely in her favor when it comes to earning a nomination in the Best Actress category at the Academy Awards. Astonishingly, her career took a nosedive after she became Hollywood’s highest-paid actress decades ago, but luckily, this movie gave her the chance to redeem herself.
