UFC Lightweight Paddy Pimblett is a Game of Thrones fan and is refusing to hold back his displeasure about the last two seasons of the show. Based on a popular book series penned by the famous author George R. R. Martin, it is a show created by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss for HBO. The series managed to snag 59 Primetime Emmy Awards, which is the most Emmys won by a drama series. It also received five nominations for the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series—Drama.

Despite such huge popularity, fans were dissatisfied with how the show was turning out to be post-season 6. Finally, it seemed that those people were not alone, as UFC star Paddy Pimblett joined the force by calling the directors a “pair of bellends” for ruining his favorite TV show.

UFC star Paddy Pimblett does not hold back while criticizing Game of Thrones creators

Game of Thrones is undoubtedly one of the best TV series ever made, and it will go down in history for its grandiose production, epic narrative, and extremely talented cast, who became synonymous with their GoT characters even after the show ended. Despite fans being displeased about how the story had taken a turn after season 6, the viewership of the show always managed to retain the top position. However, it was the finale that broke the barrier of everyone’s patience. To this day, it is one of the most hated finales of a TV series of all time and many fans hold it against the showrunners for ruining the show.

Now UFC fighter Paddy Pimblett has some choice words to say about the showrunners and how they ruined the show. In an interview with Nina Marie Daniele, he had positive words about the show in general but he did not spare the showrunners from his wrath for ruining the show. He said:

“It’s the best series ever made up until like Season 6, and then them two assholes who made it absolutely ruined it to go make Star Wars … D&D … Pair of bellends”

When Culture Crave posted about it on X (formerly Twitter), many fans seemed to echo Pimblett’s opinion. It created a resurgence in the hate bandwagon against the show and fans did not hold back. Check out some of the reactions below:

George R. R. Martin, the writer of the A Song of Ice and Fire series on which the show was based, also indirectly put the blame on the showrunners for the travesty in later seasons. While talking to the New York Times, he said he was kept “out of the loop,” and when asked why that happened, he threw shade by saying, “I don’t know—you have to ask Dan and David.” It is clear that the author was less than pleased with the showrunners himself.

When is The Winds of Winter, the next book in the Game of Thrones saga, coming?

Due to the huge disappointment of the last few seasons of Game of Thrones and the massive failure of the last season, fans have now turned their hopes and dreams towards the unpublished Game of Thrones book, The Winds of Winter. It has been 12 years since the last book, A Dance With Dragon’s arrival and there is nothing on the horizon even now.

Over the years, George R. R. Martin has released 11 chapters of the book. However, he stated later that he rewrote them several times and stopped releasing chapters in 2018. Some plots were significantly cut from the adaptation so many plot points would be a surprise in the book.

In December 2022, Martin appeared in Stephen Colbert’s Tooning Out the News and he revealed a promising update. He estimated that he had finished roughly 1,100 to 1,200 pages with only 400 or 500 left. However, in November 2023, he claimed that he was perfecting the same 1100 pages, which means no progress has been made so far. At this rate, he is taking around 6 years to complete 500 pages so the estimated release date can be expected somewhere around 2029, although given his writer’s constipation, nobody knows how long it will actually take for him to conclude the Game of Thrones saga.

Game of Thrones is available to stream on HBO.
