Ahead of the release of the highly anticipated series, Law spoke to Moviefone, where he was asked about his experience of joining the Star Wars universe. To which he said,

It was stepping into a very familiar world. I was one of the millions of kids in the late 70s, whose lives were changed when they were taken to the cinema by their parents to see the first film.

The actor continued by explaining that he has a soft spot for Star Wars because as a kid, he played around and collected the figures and cards of the franchise. He added that he just felt very familiar with the space. Law revealed he said yes to Star Wars: Skeleton Crew because he has always been curious about how Star Wars movies are made, and still feel authentic.

Upon asking about his character, he described it as full of potential and possibilities. He added,

He’s very mysterious; he’s a different thing to different people with different names, and he keeps you guessing right up to the end. The big question is, are his intentions good or bad? That I don’t want to spoil, but the fun aspect was, because of his multifaceted sort of nature, I was able to touch on inspiration from characters throughout the canon.

Law added that there were times for humor, drama, menace and heroism for his character. He ultimately added that his character does touch on all of those, and it meant that it was very rewarding to play him on-screen. Law’s character’s story has been kept under wraps, but he shared that Han Solo and Lando Calrissian inspired his character.

Jude Law talks about working with Jon Watts and Christopher Ford on Star Wars: Skeleton Crew

During the interview, the actor was asked about his experience of working with the creators of the show, to which he said that the script had so much heavy lifting to do, and it was clear and executed well. Law added that Jon Watts and Christopher Ford are very approachable. He mentioned,

I have a process where I must understand where my characters were born and what happened in their past, and they [the creators] agreed that we could draw all that out so that we know exactly, and in fact, they drew on it.

The Closer actor noted that it’s not an easy job to set something up and then step back and let other directors come in. He described it as an inclusive experience.

In his interview with Collider, the actor addressed fan theories about his character, which mentioned that he could be related to Rey’s father, Dathan, or that he could be a clone of Emperor Palpatine. The host also added that there are rumors about him, including being an Order 66 survivor. He said,

I think there’s a link there to one possible truth, but I may be wrong. You see, this is what I love about this universe. I’m not someone who engages in that stuff, but I just love that it’s going on.

Law did not stress more on what theory he thinks can have a link, but he said that he’s excited for the audience to watch it.

He added that the audience is surely going to want more of the show, adding that they’ll be ‘confounded and kind of upset.’ The series consists of eight episodes and is going to start premiering on December 2, 2024, on Disney+.
