Peaky Blinders Star Cillian Murphy Likely to Get License to Kill as New James Bond
James Bond is an iconic character in the Hollywood industry which is now vacant after Daniel Craig’s exit. While Hollywood is looking for the next perfect actor to portray the legendary British spy in the James Bond franchise, it seems the search is close to an end. At least for some netizens, Irish actor, Cillian Murphy is the perfect candidate for 007 in the franchise.
Recently, a fan poll happened regarding the possible list of contenders that are suitable for the iconic spy role which has continued to seek fans’ attention. The results are quite on par, especially the list which consists of spectacular actors.

The 46-year-old actor, Cillian Murphy has been credited for his amazing work in the entertainment industry. He is mostly recognized for his portrayal of Tommy Shelby in the Peaky Blinders. Due to his extravagant persona, many want him to see playing the role of spy, James Bond in the famous James Bond franchise.
He is the top candidate according to a Party Casino poll that surveyed 1,000 people with 5.20% tipping for him as they would like him to be given a license to kill. Apart from him, 2.40% wanted Paul Mescal for the role. Meanwhile, Tom Hardy, Henry Cavill, Richard Madden, Tom Holland, and James Norton are the other contenders to be considered for the role.
The former’s name in the 007 list is not a surprise for anyone especially because of his critically acclaimed performance in the British period crime TV series. While many would be excited to see him in the franchise, the actor had not much hope about his casting for the iconic spy role.
Cillian Murphy Addressed His Links With James Bond
The Inception actor in a 2019 interview with Guardian got candid about becoming a new actor to play 007. It might be quite a surprise as he seemed to be a perfect fit for the role given his past performances.
However, he has different thoughts about the same. He shared,
“There’s two things I’ll say about that. Firstly, there’s a whole other industry which is completely separate from the film side of things, and that’s the bookies.”
He further believed that the next James should be “a woman” which is why he ruled himself out. William Hill, a gambling company however told Dublin Live last year that he has already proven his worth with Peaky Blinders. His capabilities are signs that no one can yet rule out the possibility of him in the franchise as Pierce Brosnan, who is also an Irish actor is credited to have portrayed one of the best James Bond to date. The spy role was last played by Daniel Craig in the 2021 film, No Time to Die which grossed over $774 million worldwide.
