Director Shawn Levy posted the memorable moment on his Instagram, and it quickly went viral. Fans are really loving Jackman’s authentic reaction. At first, it seemed like Marvel was pushing Hugh Jackman to come back as Wolverine. Now, the video says it all. It shows that Jackman came back willingly and is so thrilled that he’s savoring every moment of the film.

The actor also quickly set the record straight. In an interview with Fandango, Jackman said he genuinely thought his Wolverine story was over after Logan in 2017. However, when the Aussie actor got the chance to team up with Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool, he couldn’t say no.

Sometimes in life, things come really clearly to you, and when that happens, I’ve learned you just jump. You go for it.

Even Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige had reservations about bringing Wolverine back. After all, Logan was considered a perfect ending to the character’s arc. He told Empire:

I said, ‘Let me give you a piece of advice, Hugh. Don’t come back’. [Wolverine] had the greatest ending in history with Logan. That’s not something we should undo.

The solution was to create a new version of Wolverine, different from the one fans loved in the X-Men films. This idea appealed to both Feige and Jackman. It gave the star a chance to explore a new side of the character without overshadowing his previous work.

Will MCU Keep Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine After Deadpool 3?

While Deadpool’s comedic antics are sure to continue, the fate of Wolverine, a role synonymous with Hugh Jackman, is more complex. Jackman’s portrayal of Logan has lasted nearly 25 years, and his recent performance has renewed interest in the character. With the MCU preparing for a mutant-focused era, everyone is wondering: Will the 55-year-old keep playing Wolverine?

The film’s ending hints Wolverine might take on a new role. After losing his team in his own universe, Logan could become a mentor to younger mutants. This would let Jackman keep playing the role while giving space to new characters and adding an interesting new story.

Despite his age, Jackman’s strong physique and clear enjoyment of the role suggest he’s open to continuing. Given the film’s huge success, it’s unlikely Marvel would let go of such a valuable star.
