This time around, the scapegoat at the center of this controversy happens to be Peter Dinklage, and the source is the live-action adaptation of the fairy tale, Snow White.
To be precise, it is the new trailer of this movie featuring CGI dwarfs that has resulted in disappointment among people. The fact that this movie is live-action and yet features CGI dwarfs instead of actual artists from the dwarfs’ community is absolutely beyond people’s understanding, and the target of their backlash has turned out to be Dinklage due to some comments he made about the movie a few years ago.

Disney has constantly been under fire ever since it decided to make live-action adaptations of the fairy tales people grew up watching. To make matters worse, they decided to make the movies inclusive by casting actors that represent a certain community instead of sticking to the original stories. This was not the case when the movies were made the first time, but the world has changed a lot since then so it sounded like a plausible decision.
However, people rarely agree on the same decision so there has been a lot of backlash about certain things that the company decided to do. Change is always difficult so watching their favorite movies getting ripped to make them more inclusive has not been easy for some. Even so, Little Mermaid performed rather well at the box office and also received critical appreciation.
Snow White is the latest live-action adaptation that Dinsey has been working on for quite some time but keeps suffering backlash for. Something or the other comes up every time a new trailer is released. This time, the CGI dwarfs in the movie have emerged as the source of disappointment, and some people are holding Peter Dinklage accountable for it.
The fact that Dinklage has to bear the brunt of a comment he made a couple of years ago when Disney has an entire creative team to work with is not sitting right with some fans. The studio has spent years making this movie and has some of the best creatives in the industry and yet could not come up with a satisfactory result sounds like no one’s fault but its own.
What Did Peter Dinklage Say About the Snow White Live-action Adaptation to Cause This Public Outrage Against Him?
When Disney first announced that Latina actress Rachel Zegler would be playing the titular character, it seemed to make no efforts to change the narrative about the ‘seven dwarfs’. Peter Dinklage, who has a form of dwarfism called achondroplasia, took shots at the conglomerate and accused it of double standards for not trying to straighten out damaging stereotypes.
According to the Guardian, while talking to Marc Maron, Dinklage expressed his disapproval of this fact, saying:
You’re progressive in one way but you’re still making that f*cking backward story of seven dwarves living in the cave. What the f*ck are you doing, man? Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soapbox? I guess I’m not loud enough.
In an interview with Fox News, pro-wrestler Hornswoggle claimed that these comments kept actors from the dwarf community from a chance to star in a movie that could give them leverage in Hollywood. It could have been the dream role for many. He also argued that Dinklage should not be the sole voice of the community. This makes total sense because the Game of Thrones star just put forward his perspective.
It is unlikely that the studio came to this decision based on Dinklage’s comments and did not have a conversation with other members of the community. So, putting all the blame on him for their creative decision does not sound like the right thing to do at all.
Snow White will be in theaters on March 21, 2025.
