Peter Krause recalls an awkward incident from his father’s funeral

In an interview with The Huffington Post, actor Peter Krause, whose father passed away in 2012 shared an incident when he went to his father’s funeral in Roseville, Minnesota, which turned into an awkward moment for him. He explained:

“I stood up and he [the funeral director] immediately launched into ‘Oh, it’s such an honor to meet you. You don’t understand.’ And I’m just standing there listening to him go on and on.”

“I sort of cocked my head and looked at him. And he says, ‘Of course, we’re not here to talk ‘Six Feet Under.’ My mother was with me, as well. She was just standing there staring at the guy like, ‘Are you kidding me?’”

The actor who is known to play a character on a show that runs a funeral home in California might not have expected to have a local funeral director fanboy over him at his father’s funeral.

Peter Krause says he thought Six Feet Under had ‘cult hit’ written over it

The actor mentioned that he, along with Michael C. Hall who played David Fisher on the show, had fallen in love with the script when they read it, noting that something like a family running a funeral home had never been portrayed on-screen. Krause said he felt that the unique concept of the show had a cult hit written all over it.

Hall said,

“Given HBO’s pedigree at the time with ‘The Sopranos’ and other shows and the emergence of pay cable as a viable artistic medium, I knew that people would be leaning forward and paying attention to it.”

He continued,

“I think everybody involved was blown away by the quality of the pilot script and felt confident with Alan [Ball] at the helm, so I think there was a collective sense that, if we were able to embody the characters in a way that honored our collective sense of enthusiasm, we would be onto something.”

Michael Hall had felt that the TV landscape was ripe for such a unique and out-of-the-box concept.

Peter Krause mentions Six Feet Under served as therapeutic and cathartic for people

The actor during the conversation with the Huffington Post noted that when 9/11 happened, he wondered if people would watch the show surrounding the death, adding that he met people along the way who had watched a couple of episodes, had a death in the family, and stopped watching the show.

But Krause also pointed out that he did meet a lot of others who watched more because it served as therapeutic and cathartic to watch for them. He said the emotional and realistic storyline of the show resonated with the viewers.
