Pique Regrets Cheating on Shakira for Clara Chia Marti, Promises To Stay Loyal to Himself From Now on: “I want to be faithful to myself”
Gerard Piqué finally got way more candid about his high-profile breakup with Colombian singer Shakira after nine months of silence. The former couple, who have two sons, Sasha, and Milan Mebarak, announced their split in June of last year.
In a new interview with El Pais on March 19, 2023, the Spanish former professional footballer was brutally honest about his cheating scandal and split from the Waka Waka hitmaker. You might be thinking he would have expressed his regrets after splitting up with the Colombian singer and songwriter. After all, the entire world appears to be on his famous ex’s side following his alleged affair with 24-year-old Clara Chia Marti (with whom he has now made his relationship public).
Since their split, it has been claimed that he had been cheating on Shakira with another woman, who has since been identified as Piqué’s current girlfriend Clara Chia Marti. The 24-year-old is a model and public relations student.
In a new interview, the former soccer player described his relationship with Chia Marti as “very happy.” What has he said about his infamous cheating on his ex? Let’s take a look!
Gerard Piqué Spoke Out about Shakira’s Messy Breakup And Cheating Scandal
Gerard Pique was yet to respond to these cheating allegations of infidelity and has remained silent on the split until recently. On March 19, 2023, the retired soccer player discussed his post-breakup priorities with El Pas, a Spanish news outlet.
“Everyone has a responsibility to do what is best for their kids,” he said in English, translating from Spanish.
“It’s about protecting them,” said the former Barcelona player and now Kosmos president. “That’s the job of all parents with their kids. That’s what I’m focused on and that’s my role as a father.”
The 36-year-old also spoke about the media attention and backlash he’s received since the split. He stated that he is not concerned with improving his image and is instead focused on the people who are closest to him. “I’m not going to spend money cleaning up my image. There have been changes in my life and I have known how to preserve happiness.”
Despite the breakup, Piqué appears to be in a happy space in his personal life. In January, he made his relationship with Clara Chia Marti official on Instagram.
He also stated that he is “faithful to himself” and is “very happy” with his life right now. “I keep doing what I want. The day I die, I will look back and hope I have always done what I wanted. I want to be faithful to myself.”
What Did Shakira Say?
Shakira, on the other hand, has used her music to express herself and channel her emotions since the split. She recently discussed her emotions in her new song, BZRP Music Sessions (Vol. 53), which she co-wrote with Argentine DJ Bizarrap and was inspired by her breakup with Gerard Piqué.
Shakira and Piqué split in June 2022, and the Monotonía singer revealed the news publicly in September. In an Elle interview, she described the process as “incredibly difficult” for their children. “Regardless of how things ended or how Gerard and I feel about each other as ex-partners, he is the father of my children.”
Her music has enabled her to connect with other women who have faced similar heartbreaking situations. She stated that writing the song was a healthy way for her to express herself and connect with her fans.
Overall, the former couple appears to be moving on from their ugly split in their unique ways. Whenever, Wherever hitmaker expresses herself through music, while Piqué is more concerned with being a good father and finding happiness in his personal life with a new girlfriend.
