“Please, just fire me”: Sandra Bullock Was Ready to Retire From Acting Than Sleep With Harvey Weinstein and Other Hollywood Big Shots, Blasted Others When They Shamed Actresses for ‘Sleeping’ With Disgraced Producer for Roles
It is no secret that Hollywood has been a toxic industry for women. Female stars have been abused and mistreated for decades. However, with the advent of the #MeToo movement, things have improved a bit. Disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein had exploited and s*xually abused several women before some of his victims spoke out and helped put an end to his crimes. Weinstein is now convicted and faces several lawsuits and criminal cases. Sandra Bullock, one of the stalwarts of Hollywood, has had negative experiences herself. In an interview, she discussed her strong stance against abuse and her support for other celebrities.
Sandra Bullock recalls hearing stories about Harvey Weinstein
In an interview with The Sunday Times in 2018, Oscar-winning actress Sandra Bullock said that she had heard about the disgraced producer and actor Harvey Weinstein but had never worked with him professionally. Long before the scores of s*xual assault charges were made public against him in 2018, Bullock started to hear stories about women sleeping with him in exchange for gigs.
The Proposal actress revealed to the outlet,
“I only heard the stories about what Harvey wanted people to hear, and that made me so angry. People would say, Well, you know how she got that role? She f**ked Harvey. I would say, Shut the f*ck up. You don’t know that. Then, later, to learn that the woman had been brutally attacked… They didn’t sleep with Harvey. Harvey wanted you to think that.”
Weinstein has repeatedly denied any allegations of non-consensual s*x. In response to the Miss Congeniality star’s comments in the interview, Weinstein’s attorney Ben Brafman said in a statement,
“By her own admission, Harvey Weinstein never had an unpleasant interaction with Sandra Bullock. Indeed, from a review of her correspondence with Mr. Weinstein, it would appear that she had a warm and pleasant relationship with him and even his daughter going back many years.”
“Accordingly, with all due respect to Ms. Bullock, it is not right for her to take unproven allegations and republicanize them in an effort to deprive Mr. Weinstein of due process and possibly a fair trial that every citizen in this great country is entitled to. In America, the presumption of innocence is supposed to have meaning: When piling on becomes the norm simply because it seems to be the politically correct or fashionable thing to do, we all lose, including Ms. Bullock.”
Many Hollywood celebrities have come forward to accuse Weinstein of s*xual misconduct in the past, including Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, and Gwyneth Paltrow.
Sandra Bullock says she was afraid of Harvey Weinstein
At the Manhattan Supreme Court in June 2018, he pleaded not guilty to charges of rape and s*xual assault against one woman. Bullock tells the publication that she was really afraid when the first brave individuals accused Weinstein.
The actress from The Blind Side continued by stating,
“I was thinking, Oh my goodness, this is wonderful, but what if it doesn’t work?’ Oh God, don’t let it swing the other way,” she remembered thinking. “Right now, we’re in such uncharted territory. I’ve seen a lot of fear and a lot of men of a certain generation not understanding.”
Sandra Bullock, on the other hand, was working on her film, Bird Box, at the time and observed a change behind the scenes. She said,
“I saw a tremendous amount of fear from men on set. In the end, I said, I know you’re scared, but I feel safe, so you can make some jokes now. But if you cross the line, I will f–k you up.”
While Sandra Bullock is one of Hollywood’s most famous faces, she prefers to keep her private life private. That includes her connection with partner Bryan Randall, with whom she has been dating since 2015 and who supports her in raising her two children, Laila and Louis.
