“Quentin ultimately lost confidence in the script”: Brad Pitt Suffers Another Heartbreak While Relationship With Shiloh Takes an Unpleasant Turn
Renowned filmmaker Quentin Tarantino has reportedly shelved his upcoming planned movie, The Movie Critic. This project was slated to be his 10th and final film. The movie, which was rumored to be his last, was set to star Brad Pitt and was close to pre-production. However, due to the call-off, Hollywood A-lister Pitt seems to be facing a major setback.
It was last year when the filmmaker announced plans for The Movie Critic, a film about a lesser-known man who wrote movie reviews for an adult magazine (the premise reported by The Hollywood Reporter). Even though the idea wasn’t as flashy as his other famous movies like Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction, many expected it to be a big release.
Brad Pitt’s Important Film Scrapping Comes as a Setback
Though no studio was officially named, two insiders told The Hollywood Reporter that Sony Pictures was ready to back Quentin Tarantino‘s now-shelved project.
Sony had successfully turned his 2019 film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, into a blockbuster, earning $377.4 million worldwide (via The Numbers) — second only to Django Unchained at $425.4 million (via Box Office Mojo). The insider told In Touch Weekly:
Brad Pitt, Sony, everybody was ready to make Tarantino’s next movie The Movie Critic and deals were being drawn up. Budgets were being prepared and the state of California was ready to offer a massive tax credit to make sure the final Tarantino masterpiece would film entirely in the state.
The source noted that the movie was very important to Brad Pitt, especially since his daughter Shiloh opted to remove his last name from theirs. She decided to remove ‘Pitt’ from her name on her 18th birthday. This decision came after her 15-year-old sister Vivienne had done the same.
The Hollywood mogul and Shiloh have stayed really close since he and Angelina Jolie broke up in 2016. A source exclusively told Life & Style in 2022 that they have a very strong bond that can’t be broken. “Brad never puts pressure on Shiloh and encourages her to pursue her dreams,” the insider said of their relationship. But her decision seems to dishearten him. And now, the cancellation of the movie adds another blow!
The Exact Reason for Quentin Tarantino’s Film Cancellation
The exact reason for why Quentin Tarantino shelved the film wasn’t revealed. The only reason is that the American director has become more excited by other ideas. “He has a lot of scripts that he’s thrown away,” said a long-time talent agent familiar with his mindset (via THR).
Tarantino has previously expressed a desire to “go out on top,” which might have added pressure to his choice of a final film. However, an insider revealed to In Touch Weekly:
Quentin ultimately lost confidence in the script and the premise as the shoot grew nearer.
This became the reason for the project’s downfall. The source also stated that the 61-year-old has decided to put his family first. Balancing life between Los Angeles and Israel, he’s taking a break from filmmaking to focus on personal matters.
