Patrick Wilson is a well-known actor in the horror genre who has established himself with iconic roles in films like Insidious and The Conjuring. Wilson left the Insidious franchise after participating in the first and second installments, believing that his days of fighting against demons were done.
In an interview, Wilson claimed that his time working for the franchise had given him many wonderful memories. His decision to leave the franchise was solely based on the fact that he thought that that was it for his character. In the movies, his character saved someone from being possessed and then he became possessed himself. He said, “What else is there to do?”

The prospect to direct Insidious: The Red Door, the fifth installment of the Insidious series, however, pulled him back and convinced him to return. On the first day of shooting for his part in The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, Wilson got the call to direct Insidious: The Red Door. He was first concerned since he did not want to direct a horror movie as his debut as a director. But after giving it some thought for a day, he concluded that this was a chance he simply could not pass up.
Wilson had asked his agent to look for projects for him to direct since he was looking for chances to direct a movie. Therefore, this came as a golden opportunity to make his directorial debut since he has experience in the horror genre having spent more than ten years constantly battling against supernatural beings.
What’s the story of Insidious: The Red Door?
On July 6, 2023, the franchise’s fifth film, Insidious: The Red Door, was released in theaters. Patrick Wilson directed this film. In Insidious: The Red Door, the Lambert family is returning for one last spooky experience. Josh Lambert (Patrick Wilson) and Dalton Lambert (Ty Simpkins) are still plagued by their past demons ten years after the events of the previous movies. Lambert understands that they have to return to The Further, the place where it all started when his son Dalton Lambert begins to see unsettling images.
