- His sudden departure in 2010 left fans confused.
- He is said to have left the band due to rifts with the other members even though the decision was painful.
Back when bands were all the rage in the music industry, a new group emerged called My Chemical Romance in 2001. The band enjoyed widespread success in the early 2000s with albums like The Black Parade. Their tours were sold out, their songs were instant successes, and fans enjoyed their music in essence.
My Chemical Romance consisted of lead singer Gerard Way, lead guitarist Ray Toro, rhythm guitarist Frank Iero, lead bassist Mikey Way, touring keyboardist James Dewees and drummer Bob Bryar. However, after 2010, the band was left with only 5 members with Bryar splitting from the rest. Here’s everything we know about the drummer’s exit.
When did Bob Bryar join My Chemical Romance?
Though the band was formed in 2001, Bob Bryar joined the musical group in 2004 and replaced drummer Matt Pelissier. He joined the band on numerous tours and helped make them the huge sensation of that musical period. The rise of My Chemical Romance was undeniably because of their music with subtle emotional tones embedded in hard rock music.
Along with the other bandmates, Bryar helped the band find its spirit and sound that eventually became synonymous with My Chemical Romance. He faced issues while being a part of the band as well, which even led to the band canceling a show in Maine. Bryar claimed this was because of his wrist injury as he shared on MySpace at the time,
We are very sorry about cancelling our recent show in Maine. I have been having many problems with my wrists over the past few years. They have been getting worse, but I kept playing. I have seen many doctors to get some relief so I wouldn’t have to stop playing. I guess I pushed it too hard this time. During our show at Maxwell’s, I got a golf ball-sized lump in my wrist, I started to not only have pain, but lose control and feeling in my fingers.
Despite such issues, the band supported Bryar and their work went on. They did numerous shows across the country which were great successes and a way for the band to spread the word about their work.
Bob Bryar Left My Chemical Romance in 2010
While the real reason behind his sudden departure remains unknown, fans believe it was because of unresolved mental health issues that caused a rift between Bryar and the bandmates. This perhaps caused numerous arguments between the band members which led to Bryar departing.
After leaving the band, Bryar grew bitter and hateful, with negative actions reflecting poorly on his reputation. He expressed how he felt in a tweet that has been deleted since,
After being kicked out of MyChem, I became the most depressed, angry, suicidal person ever. Now I am on so many pills that I feel a bit better, although it still bothers me every day.
Along with the repercussions of his actions in the eyes of the masses, there was a bigger turmoil brewing inside Bryar that led him to do such things. His anger slowly transformed into hatred and he managed to ostracize a handful of people who saw him as their idol. Bryar continued to post racist and controversial things online, alienating him further from any fans he had left.
