Rod Stewart, Who Never Flinched During 3 Year Cancer Battle – Now Reportedly Scared of Losing His Voice: “He prays for good fortune every night”
The legendary singer Rod Stewart battled prostate cancer for three years and now is fearful of losing his very gift, his voice. The British rock and pop singer and songwriter is business for over 60 years. He is extremely professional when it comes to his shows, he did not let anything faze or stop him from doing what he loves. But the thought of losing his very identity, his voice was a nightmare to him.
Recently, he had to do what he never did once in his career, cancel a show due to health issues. The 78-year-old singer had to cancel one of his appearances on March 17, because of the doctor’s warning about his degrading voice box.
Rod Stewart may lose his voice
Doctors are requesting the legendary singer, Rod Stewart to take some time off, as he is at risk of damaging his voice permanently because of a viral infection. Therefore, to avoid any such complications the celebrity had to cancel his March appearance on the 17th in Australia. The Grammy winner broke the news on Instagram to 1.2 million followers and expressed his regrets. He wrote,
“Hello my friends,—I’m absolutely downhearted that I’m disappointing my fans who bought tickets to A Day on the Green. Late this morning I was advised that I have a viral infection and my throat is too irritated to sing.”
He then further added,
“I’m only human and sometimes get sick just like you do. My greatest joy is performing for you, so I’m doing everything I can to get on the mend and back on stage!”

A source close to the singer said,
“Rod prides himself on being a trouper and a troubadour. He’s hardly ever missed a show in his career,–But Rod’s biggest nightmare is losing his voice. Now, he fears his voice will give out before the rest of his body.”
Although this isn’t the first time he had to go through this amount of pain, the singer suffered from thyroid cancer in the 2000s. He shared his experience on the Loose Women stating,
“I had a touch of thyroid cancer, it was over and out within 10 minutes,—I don’t want to pretend I fought cancer for months and months. It was really easy to get rid of, but I did lose my voice – totally gone. It was scary because I couldn’t sing a note. You know, they chop right through your throat all the muscles are torn apart and they’ve all got memories so they have to remember again. So it took me a long time. I’d start off, ‘Wake up Maggie..’ oh, it’s gone. ‘Wake up Maggie I think I’ve got..’ oh, it’s gone again. It took me that long, it took me six months to get it back again.”
But he fought back, and fans are certain he will be back this time as well. Fans can’t wait to see him back on stage.
Is Rod Stewart retiring?
The Grammy-winning singer and performer revealed last year, that he will be retiring from touring. That does not mean the singer will not be seen singing. Just not touring, his health and age now do not allow him to take such liberties. Thus, for the sake of his fans, as well as himself, he has to stop touring. He said to Daily Record,
“Next year will be the end of my rock ‘n’ roll touring,–I want to do something different. It feels like an end of an era. All things must come to an end.”
He then further added,
“I still love singing, I just want to do something new. I might do a few folk clubs playing guitar. Just be different.”
Fans are wishing for his speedy recovery and hope he can return to what he loves doing the most soon enough.
