Ruined: Actors Whose Career Got Destroyed Due To One Role
Actors aren’t always as perfect as they portray themselves in films. They make mistakes too. And in glamourous Hollywood, we often think everyone is living a perfect life. Especially when you are A-lister actors, their mistakes aren’t forgiven.
Here are some instances where one box office bomb ruined the careers of the actors!
1. Freddie Prinze Jr. – Scooby- Doo (2002)
Freddie Prinze Jr. was such a big deal back in the 1990s. Back then Hollywood was rushing to make rom-coms and teen slashers and Freddie was high in demand. He has been a part of many movies back then but then the new millennium brought a change in his fortune.
Filmmakers were still keen on having him in the films, but audiences lost their interest in him. He played Fred in the Scooby-Doo movie and even though it did well at the box office, it was severely criticized. That left Prinze Jr. struggling for credibility.
He returned for the sequel but after that, he just didn’t have fun making movies and abandoned Hollywoof to pursue something else.
2. Taylor Lautner – Abduction (2011)
Thanks to the Twilight Saga, Taylor Lautner was once a heartthrob, and his name attached to movies meant expecting a great response. Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart had their blunders after Twilight but they were forgiven, unlike Lautner who wasn’t forgiven.
Taylor was roped in for Abduction but the movie ended up being a critical joke. It was a letdown and the actor has been struggling since.
3. Lindsay Lohan – I Know Who Killed Me (2007)
She has had many disappointing films but I Know Who Killed Me was an obvious turning point. She used to be a Hollywood sensation and shared the screen with Meryl Streep (A Prairie Home Companion) and even Jane Fonda (Georgia Rule). Lohan had become a sensation due to her movies like Freaky Friday, Mean Girls, and The Parent Trap and her popularity landed her in magazines.
Her mystery thriller however failed to attract an audience. She did appear in Machete and Liz& Dick (TV) but since her “Killed Me”, her appearances have grown fewer.
4. Justin Chatwin – Dragonball Evolution (2009)
As much as we love the animated series Dragon Ball Z and the Manga, we hate the live adaptation movie. They insulted our feelings by making this mockery. Though Justin had played Tom Cruise’s son in War of the Worlds and grabbed everyone’s attention, probably everyone hated him as Goku. And that is not just because he was a white guy playing an Asian character. The movie was a complete bore and it was so bad that screenwriter Ben Ramsey apologized to fans. After that, Chatwin’s most notable role has been a supporting one in “Shameless.”
5. Hayden Christensen – Jumper (2008)
When he starred as Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars prequels Episode II and III, fans had a hard time accepting him. But the films were still successful and Christensen had shit shot at becoming a Hollywood sensation.
But that wasn’t successful either. He signed on for Jumper and it was structured to launch a sequel series. But it wasn’t received well by the audiences. This took him off from the business for years.
