Brad Pitt satisfied with his superhero appearance as Vanisher in Deadpool 2
During the promotions of Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood in 2019, actor Brad Pitt along with Leonardo DiCaprio and actress Margot Robbie spoke to MTV News’ Josh Horowitz, who had asked him about his plans to portray a superhero on-screen after appearing as Vanisher in Deadpool 2.
Brad Pitt said, “I think I’ve taken it as far as I can take it. Ryan Reynolds came up with a part that I could fill.”
After years of fans’ anticipation, Pitt appeared as Vanisher in Ryan Reynolds starrer Deadpool 2 as a cameo as the character, just like the name suggests, can become invisible. The actor only appeared for a few seconds, depicting the character’s death.
Brad Pitt, while promoting his recent movie Bullet Train, once again talked about his appearance in Deadpool 2 on BBC Radio 1 interview with Ali Plumb mentioned by CBR where he had described that it was the easiest thing he has ever done. He added that it allowed him to work alongside his friend and director David Leitch.
“Dave’s an old friend of mine, and he used to be… he was my stunt double starting with Fight Club and all the way up till about ’04.”
Brad Pitt appeared as Vanisher in exchange for a cup of coffee from Ryan Reynolds
Ryan Reynolds had shared with Entertainment Tonight at the time that Pitt was convinced for the cameo in exchange for a cup of coffee from him. He said,
“I was told all he wanted is a cup of coffee and I said, ‘Like a franchise or just one individual cup of coffee?’ And I was told one individual cup of coffee, which was really his way of saying, ‘I’m doing it for nothing.’ And it was a total solid and the nicest thing anyone could do.”
Fans were upset because they felt that Brad Pitt’s cameo was such a waste in the movie, but Reynolds had a different way of looking at things, as he said,
“I just loved it, because what’s more irresponsible than taking one of the biggest movie stars in the world and giving him a role that is utterly wordless and invisible with the exception of three frames of film?” Reynolds joked. “Yeah, that’s kind of amazing.”
Deadpool 2’s writer Paul Wernick had shared with The Hollywood Reporter that Vanisher was never supposed to appear in the flesh but the fact that he was going to get wrapped up in wires is what inspired them to feature a celebrity cameo.
Leonardo DiCaprio has not completely ruled out playing a superhero
Leonardo DiCaprio’s fans have been waiting for the actor to portray a superhero on-screen despite it being reported that the actor had turned down a couple of Comic Book Movies, including Batman Forever, Spider-Man, and Joker, because he didn’t feel interested enough or ready to put on a suit.
When asked during an interview with ShortList about his future of being a superhero, the actor said that he met with Joel Schumacher, director of Batman Forever, for the part of Robin but he didn’t end up doing it. On being asked if he wanted to do it, DiCaprio said,
“As I recall, I took the meeting, but didn’t want to play the role. Joel Schumacher is a very talented director, but I don’t think I was ready for anything like that.”
He was later asked if he had ruled out playing a superhero on-screen, to which he said, “You never know. They’re getting better and better as far as complex characters in these movies. I haven’t yet. But no, I don’t rule out anything.”
The actor also met George Lucas to portray Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars prequels, but unfortunately, did not end up taking the role.
