Ryan Reynolds’ ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Aims at One Box-Office Record Not Even Hugh Jackman’s ‘Logan’ Could Achieve
Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman joining forces for Deadpool & Wolverine, one of the most highly anticipated movies of the year is predicted to make a box office record on its opening weekend. This is not all too surprising given how eagerly fans have been waiting for the third Deadpool movie.
Having Wolverine star in the upcoming film is a cherry on the top, especially since Jackman announced his retirement from the role years ago, and his clawed mutant’s dynamic with the Merc with the Mouth is certainly something fans would not prefer missing on the big screen. That said, the box-office opening weekend prediction for the movie might even end up beating Jackman’s Logan.
Deadpool & Wolverine Might Beat Logan with A Box-Office Record It Is Expected to Make
Deadpool & Wolverine is undoubtedly going to be full of action and banter between the two titular characters. In addition to that, it will also feature cameos and numerous multiversal elements such as variants of Deadpool, which will make the movie even more interesting.
Deadline has reported that The Quorum, a site that monitors films six weeks ahead, is reporting the film to have a domestic box-office opening of $200-239 million.
If the movie manages to actually do this, it will become the first R-rated movie to have such a big opening. The current holder of that spot is Deadpool, which had a domestic opening of $132.4 million (via Box Office Mojo). Considering the superhero fatigue that has been going around, it will be a big deal for Disney/Marvel Studios.
Additionally, this kind of performance will result in the movie not only behind the likes of the first two Deadpool movies, and even Logan, which was supposed to be Hugh Jackman‘s last film as Wolverine. According to Box Office Mojo, the latter had a domestic opening of $88.4 million and a worldwide opening of $226 million.
Deadpool & Wolverine Box-office Projection Would Also Make It The Movie with The Biggest Opening Weekend of 2024
Deadpool & Wolverine earning north of $200 million does not appear to be too hard. In fact, this will not only make it the R-rated film with the biggest opening but also the movie with the biggest opening weekend of 2024.
Dune: Part Two, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and Kingdom of the Planet of Apes are some of the highest-grossing movies of the year so far, and their opening weekend earnings were $82 million, $80 million, and $58 million (via Dexerto), respectively.
Even movies like Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and Ryan Gosling‘s The Fall Guy have seen a severe blow this year so Deadpool & Wolverine coming out at the top might help the summer box office get out of the daunting slump it has been going through.
Deadpool & Wolverine is scheduled to hit the theatres on July 26.
