SAG Awards: Barbie is Competing With John Wick 4, Mission Impossible-Dead Reckoning for ‘Best Stunts in a Movie’
The 30th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards will be held on February 24th, 2023 at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in L.A., California. The award ceremony will be honoring the best achievements in television and movie performances for 2023. For the first time, the award ceremony will be streamed live on Netflix. Barbie and Oppenheimer tied with four nominations in movie category .
The nominations for the 30th SAG were announced by actors Kumail Nanjiani and Issa Rae. Barbra Streisand was announced as the 2023 SAG Life Achievement Award recipient. Barbie dominates the nominations at SAG Awards 2024
Greta Gerwig’s Barbie is one of the biggest movies that came out in 2023 starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. It is the first live-action Barbie movie after various animated movies and specials. Critics as well as the audience spoke highly of the movie which has been regarded as the highest-grossing movie of 2023.
Kumail Nanjiani and Issa Rae just a few hours ago took to SAG Awards and Netflix’s Instagram to announce the nominations for the 30th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. And once again, Barbie dominates the charts along with Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer with four nominations.
The movie has been nominated under categories including Best Female Actor in a Leading Role (Margot Robbie), and Best Male Actor in a Supporting Role (Ryan Gosling). The movie is also nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, and Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture.
The Stunt Ensemble Award is said to recognize the work of the stunt performers and coordinators. Currently Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick holds the title, which was presented, to them at the 29th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards in 2022. For the 30th edition, Barbie is set to compete with Keanu Reeves’ John Wick 4, Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One, Chris Pratt’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
Barbie team says movie is about Barbie, but also humans
While the 30th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards is almost a month away, the team of Barbie graced the red carpet of the Golden Globes 2024 recently. The movie won the first-ever award for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement for its success at the box office. Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig accepted the award and said via Town and Country,
“I would like to dedicate this to every single person on the planet who dressed up and went to the greatest place on earth, the movie theatres. All the Barbies and Kens in front of and behind the screen. It was the greatest, most joyful show of craftsmanship and passion I’ve ever seen.”
Robbie didn’t forget to thank Warner Bros. and Mattel for taking the risk;
“We want to thank the brave individuals at Warners and Mattel for taking an extraordinary risk-literally, like inventing numbers to justify green lighting this and then standing by it every step of the way.”
The duo lastly added that the movie is about fashion dolls, but it is also about humans and they made it with love for the audience.
