Saw X Cast, Storyline and Run Time: Saw X Has Broken Franchise Record Before Its Release
The thrill of being horror-stricken is not appealing to many. But for those it is, an enthralling news has emerged. The latest addition to the frightening world of the Saw movie franchise is going to be the longest entry of the entire series.
Saw X director Kevin Greutert revealed some key details about the film in a recent interview. Read ahead to find out.
Saw X will be the longest movie in the franchise
Created by James Wan and Leigh Whannell, the horror franchise Saw is popular with fans who like to get scared. It includes nine movies and additional media, which span over several years. The first eight movies have a fictional serial killer John Kramer at its center and the ninth movie has a different approach while still maintaining the common themes.
The series is now making a comeback with its newest installment Saw X. And it will be the longest addition to the series. The Saw movies have an average run time of 90 minutes, which will be exceeded by the new film.
As revealed by the director, Kevin Greutert in an interview with The Direct, the film was way longer than what the final cut came to be. He hinted that the script was too complex and nuanced and that a lot went into shooting. They had originally ended up with a lot of footage but had to narrow things down. Greutert said:
We spent so much time writing it and shooting it … the first cut of the film was super long … This film came in longer than I had intended it to; we shot a lot on the set. There were a lot of script pages and just a lot that we wanted to capture. So, I had to trim the film down take out some scenes, and shorten some scenes more than I wanted.”
With the release of Saw X, the film is going back to its trend of a Halloween release, which was followed diligently for the first six films in the mid-2000s.
Saw X: What do we know so far?
Saw X follows the series antagonist Jaoh Kramer/Jigsaw who travels to Mexico for treatment of his terminal cancer. He soon realizes the entire scheme is fraudulent. Being the self-appointed keeper of moral standards he is, he finds his new purpose to punish the con artists.
The film is a prequel of sorts as it picks up weeks after the events of the first film. The cast includes Tobin Bell who will be resuming his role as John Kramer/Jigsaw, Shawnee Smith as Amanda Young, Synnøve Macody Lund as Cecilia Pederson, and Steven Brand as Parker Sears among others.
Saw X will hit theatres on September 29, 2023.
