Scarlett Johansson began her acting career at a very young age. With a career spanning more than a decade, she carved out her niche in the industry. During her remarkable cinematic expeditions, it is entirely normal for any actor to experience both setbacks and declines.

Johansson, during the initial years of her career, had lost various roles to many actresses, including Lindsay Lohan’s top-notch The Parent Trap. The story of the Parker Twins, starring Lohan, brought renewed attention, particularly from younger audiences. However, Johansson, who auditioned for the iconic role, did not let these setbacks deter her.

Ever since she made her debut in North in 1994, she has consistently showcased her talent and versatility in a wide range of roles, from Lost in Translation, Jojo Rabbit, and eventually landing on the iconic Marvel Cinematic Universe, with her Black Widow proving herself a reckoning actress in the industry.

Shortly after making an initial appearance in the first movie, she attended several auditions. In a 2017 interview on The Howard Stern Show, she was pressed on some of the movies she missed out on in her career, including Jumanji, Les Misérables, and The Parent Trap.

Johansson made lighthearted comments about her missed roles. Regarding, Jumanji which she lost to Kristen Dunst, responded “I saw Jumanji. I liked it. I wasn’t bitter enough then, now I’m bitter,” Johansson was also auditioned to play long-lost twins Hallie Parker and Annie James in Disney’s 1998 reboot of The Parent Trap, where Lindsay Lohan was ultimately chosen, and she jokingly said, “started to get bitter.”

However, the role was a breakout in Lohan’s career, propelling her to greater success. Johannson also mentioned in the show, that she wasn’t old enough for the role, suggesting that she might not have been the right fit for the character at that time.

“I was too old for that movie when I auditioned for it, admitting that she still hasn’t seen this iconic movie. “Maybe when it came out, I was also too old to watch it.”

The movie, The Parent Tap, which was originally released in 1961, features Hayley Mills in the lead role. Following the movie released in 1998 was its remake, starring Lindsay Lohan as the lead character. The film tells the story of two identical twins who were separated at birth. When they reunite at a summer camp, the pairs devise a plan to bring their estranged parents together.

However, besides Johansson, there were several notable actresses considered for the Parker twins. Michelle Trachtenberg from Harriet the Spy and Mara Wilson from Matilda reportedly auditioned for the roles. While Jena Malone, known for her character in Contact, was offered the role several times on separate occasions, was ultimately turned down each time.

However, Lohan eventually landed the roles of twins Hallie and Annie Parker. According to the casting director of the film, Ilene Sterger, the casting process, especially finding the young actor, was seriously a big deal. But after conducting the screen test with Dennis Quaid and Natasha Richardson, Lohan quickly emerged as their top pick, which solidified her position as the frontrunner for the movie.
