The actor is gearing up to slip back into the shoes of Winter Soldier for the upcoming Thunderbolts, in which he stars alongside Florence Pugh, Wyatt Russell, David Harbour, and more. The movie will follow a group of antiheroes who go on a mission for the government. In an interview with Variety, Stan described his character for Thunderbolts as

It was like ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest’—a guy coming into this group that was chaotic and degenerate and somehow finding a way to unite them.

Sebastian Stan recently appeared at Comic Con Liverpool, where he was asked about his plans with Marvel for the future, to which he shared that he’d like to make two prequel movies. He explained (via SergeantBarn3S),

Probably before The First Avenger so we can see (Steve and Bucky) their friendship and relationship OR pre-Winter Solider seeing him train the Black Widow.

It’s very interesting to know that Stan wants to bring back two of the most iconic, fan favorites, the Original Avengers, for prequel movies. Chris Evans played Steve Rogers, and Scarlett Johansson played Black Widow. Fans are also excited to see if Stan’s wish gets fulfilled.

Sebastian Stan reveals he lost the Star Trek and Green Lantern roles before landing Bucky Barnes

Gossip Girl actor appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, where he went on to reveal that before landing the role of Bucky Barnes, he tried to break into another franchise. He shared,

There were a couple things I didn’t get that I really, desperately wanted. Captain Kirk for J.J. Abrams was one of the first things that I got very close to.

Stan revealed that he got very close to landing the role and had a screen test with J.J. Abrams at Paramount Studios. The actor recalled that his manager had him do a separate photoshoot where he replicated all of William Shatner’s pictures to send, but unfortunately, he didn’t get it.

Chris Pine was picked for the role in the reboot Star Trek franchise that kicked off with 2009’s Star Trek. Sebastian Stan mentioned that he also screen-tested for Green Lantern, which eventually went to Ryan Reynolds, and Stan is glad that he didn’t get it. He added that he doesn’t know if he could’ve handed that level of attention to the character as Reynolds did.

Green Lantern didn’t work at the box office. Sebastian Stan landed the role of Bucky Barnes, which spanned several MCU movies, and television shows. He became one of the most admired characters in the franchise, especially with his bond with Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson.

Thunderbolts is set to premiere on May 5, 2025.
