Samuel L. Jackson’s Secret Invasion is one of the most eagerly awaited Marvel shows, and the studios have been dropping hints here and there to keep fans’ anticipation levels high. The studio recently tweeted some cryptic messages about the show before taking them down, but the fans who have been paying close attention to the show noticed something odd.
The first episode of Secret Invasion will be available on Disney+ on June 21st, 2023. The subsequent five episodes will be released on the following Wednesdays, with the final episode arriving on July 26.
What is Marvel’s Secret Invasion about?
The mystery surrounding Nick Fury’s disappearance, particularly what he has been doing since his return from the blip, will finally be resolved in Marvel Studios‘ Secret Invasion. At Tony Stark’s funeral in Avengers: Endgame, he makes a brief appearance. Later, in Spider-Man: Far From Home, Talos took Fury’s place on Earth while Fury relaxed in space.
The official synopsis of the series explained that the series is set in the present-day MCU, Fury learns of a clandestine invasion of Earth by a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls. Fury joins his allies, including Everett Ross, Maria Hill, and the Skrull Talos, who have made a life for themselves on Earth. Together they race against time to thwart an imminent Skrull invasion and save humanity.
Director Ali Selim shared that the show is like a ‘six-hour movie’ during an interview with SFX Magazine, “When it ends, I hope you feel satiated and complete. And as Marvel does so excellently, you also feel like ‘Oh, it could go in this direction.’ Nick Fury is alive and continues to battle. I don’t think that’s a spoiler alert. And there are some characters that are no longer with us and some characters that live to see another challenge. I would love to see that challenge become season two.”
Who stars in Marvel’s Secret Invasion?
Some of the most well-known actors from the Marvel Cinematic Universe will appear in Secret Invasion, including Ben Mendelsohn as the Skrull Talos, Cobie Smulders as former SHIELD agent Maria Hill, Martin Freeman as former CIA agent Everett K. Ross, and Don Cheadle as War Machine aka James “Rhodey” Rhodes. Samuel L. Jackson will also play the series’ main character, Nick Fury.
There will be some fresh faces joining the MCU, such as Emilia Clarke as G’iah, the disobedient daughter of Talos, and Kingsley Ben-Adir as Gravik, the leader of the rebel cell. The MCU welcomes Olivia Colman as senior MI6 Agent Sonya Falsworth and Dermot Mulroney as the new American President. Richard Dormer, Christopher McDonald, and Carmen Ejogo are additional cast members.
