Seth MacFarlane’s Ted Series Has Already Broken a Peacock Record
Seth MacFarlane’s sentient bear toy Ted has set out to conquer the world of entertainment once again as it makes a comeback with the eponymous series. Although it has returned to the screens after nearly a decade, the bear does not seem to have lost its charm as it has got fans absolutely hooked on the series.
The bear toy first appeared in the 2012 comedy-drama movie Ted, starring Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis as the lead actors and Seth MacFarlane voicing the titular character. The sequel was released in 2015. Now, years later, the release of the prequel series has managed to break a record for its streaming service Peacock.

Seth MacFarlane’s Prequel Series Ted Has Broken a Peacock Record
In 2012, Seth MacFarlane made his directorial debut with the movie Ted. Mark Wahlberg played the role of John Bennett, owner of the talking and moving bear toy Ted, voiced by the Family Guy director. When eight-year-old John wishes upon a shooting star that his jumbo teddy bear come to life and become his best friend, his wish is granted. The entire franchise is built around John’s adventures with his sentient bear friend.
While the first movie was the highest-grossing movie of the year, the second did not achieve the same feat but was still loved by fans. Although this new prequel series does not include any of the cast members from the movies except MacFarlane, it has become quite a hit with the fans.
In fact, Collider reported that the series became the most-watched original title in the history of NBC’s streaming platform over its first three days following the release of all seven episodes last Thursday. The specific statistics are not known yet, but it has now become the most-watched original series on Peacock ever.

Ted follows the titular bear’s return to his best friend/owner John’s house after his fifteen minutes of fame has run out. He is not a good influence on the 16-year-old boy, and so John’s parents send him to school to no avail. The bear is as crass as ever, but his friendship with John remains strong in the toughest of times.
Seth MacFarlane on the Show’s Return for a Second Season
Fans’ warm welcome for Ted has certainly proved that absence makes the heart grow fonder. That being said, the future of the series lies in the hands of the viewers.
Speaking to The Wrap, director Seth MacFarlane said:
“There has to be an audience for something like this. You don’t want to just keep rehashing the same character if no one’s watching. I guess there’s a lot of that today anyway, but it’s not really our first order of business, there really has to be an appetite.”

MacFarlane has made it clear that the show’s return for a second season or even a sequel to Mark Wahlberg’s Ted duology depends on how fans react to this series. On the other hand, executive producers Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh told the outlet that they are on board with making more seasons of the show as with John entering his early 20s, there are a lot of stories that can be explored.
All seven episodes of Ted are available for streaming on Peacock.
