Mark Wahlberg has been in show business for a long time now. Much before he established himself as a Hollywood star, he was a part of a musical band named New Kids on the Block for a few months. In 1990, he started a band named Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, which disbanded in 1993. The same year, he made his feature film debut and has since starred as the lead actor in movies of genres like action, comedy, and drama.

One of Mark Wahlberg’s most successful comedy films is Ted duology. The first movie of this duology was released in 2012 and was the highest-grossing film of the year. To this day, it continues to be the second-highest-grossing R-rated comedy film. This success not only spawned a sequel, which was released in 2015, but also a prequel, which was released on January 11, 2024. There is a new update on whether there will be a third Ted movie or not, and fans might not be thrilled about it.

Mark Wahlberg Fans Get An Update about Ted 3 That Might Upset Them

Over the years, Mark Wahlberg has appeared in numerous comedy films such as Instant Family, Pain & Gain, Daddy’s Home, and Me Time. Ted and Ted 2, however, certainly take the cake for being the most successful comedies that he has ever made. For years, there have been speculations about a third Ted movie.

This year, Director Seth MacFarlane made a comeback with another project starring the living and talking teddy bear who has been brought to life by the kid he was gifted to. It is a prequel series in which MacFarlane reprises his role as the voice actor of the titular character, and Max Burkholder plays the role of 16-year-old John Bennett. The older version of John is played by Mark Wahlberg in the feature films.

When asked if there is going to be Ted 3, Seth MacFarlane told The Hollywood Reporter:

“Ted 2, I think, did very well. The story that had been told in the first one had such a clear beginning, middle and end that it felt like we are happily ever after from there, and so where do you really go?”

While the Family Guy director’s logic is understandable, this does not seem to be the most thrilling update for fans who had been wanting Mark Wahlberg to reprise his role as John Bennett.

It is not a new thing for Hollywood to make a prequel series/movie on already existing movies to expand the franchise. This prequel Ted series is another case of that, but the relief is that it has got fans hooked and is as good as it can be.

While speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Seth MacFarlane revealed that this series was not his idea.

“But the idea of doing a prequel was a different case. It wasn’t something that I came up with. Universal actually proposed the idea to me of doing a Ted series. I hadn’t really thought about going back to that character until they mentioned it, and I said, “Really? Isn’t that outrageously expensive?” They stayed true to their word and did not compromise the quality.”

The director then went on to say that casting Max Burkholder as a younger version of Mark Wahlberg’s John Bennett was a no-brainer because his jokes landed perfectly and he also had a bit of that Wahlberg charm that the fans have grown to love.

Ted, the TV series, is available for streaming on Peacock.
