Shakira Was Reportedly Not Even Considered To Perform at Qatar FIFA World Cup, All Allegations She Refused to Perform Due To Human Rights Violations Allegedly Fake
Shakira’s performance at the 2010 FIFA World Cup is still one of the most memorable opening ceremonies. However, she would not be performing at the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar. Following the criticism about the Gulf country’s human rights issues, many top artists have refused to perform at the event. After Dua Lipa and Rod Stewart, Shakira also turned down the opportunity to once again take the stage at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
As the news broke out it was revealed that the Colombian singer has her own personal issues to deal with. There was also criticism about her presence at the World Cup on social media. However, a new report has revealed that she was never even asked to perform at the event.
Shakira Was Never In-Talks to Perform at the 2022 FIFA World Cup
Shakira has performed three opening ceremonies of the FIFA World Cup. She first appeared during the opening ceremony in 2006 in Germany, followed by 2010 in South Africa, and 2014 in Brazil. Considering she has a history of lighting up the event with her performances, the news came as a surprise to many.
However, a new report by the newspaper Metro has revealed that Shakira was never invited to perform at the event. It further mentions that the organizers created a list of artists they would like to perform at the opening ceremony. Shakira was among these artists on the list, but reportedly she was not finalized to perform at the event.
The singer allegedly changed her mind days before the start of the World Cup. But after the latest report, all the claims regarding turning down the offer due to human rights violations turned out to be allegedly fake. The Colombian singer has not released an official statement yet.
Performing at the 2022 FIFA World Cup Could Damage Shakira’s Reputation
Although Shakira was never invited to perform at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, performing at the ceremony may have damaged her reputation. She has been always supportive of equality and human rights.
The Colombian singer was also heavily criticized for performing at Qatar FIFA World Cup. The Gulf country has imposed some strict rules for the people attending the event. Not just that already existing human rights issues are also one of the reasons, many artists have refused to perform at the event.
Singer and songwriter Dua Lipa declared the news through her Instagram. She said, “I will be cheering England on from afar. And I look forward to visiting Qatar when it has fulfilled all the human rights pledges it made when it won the right to host the World Cup.”
However, Shakira has not shared any statement so far. This has led many people to question her support for human rights, and the LGBTQ+ community.
The artists performing at the opening ceremony include J. Balvin, Robbie Williams, Jason Derulo, Clean Bandit, Sean Paul, Nora Fatehi, Black Eyed Peas, Jungkook of BTS, Nicki Minaj, Maluma, and Myriam Fares.
