At 83, Miyazaki became the oldest filmmaker to be ever nominated and win in the category of Best Animated Feature Film. Producer Toshio Suzuki and director Hayao Miyazaki were not present at the 96th Academy Awards ceremony. Presenters Anna Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth accepted the Oscar on their behalf.
Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy And The Heron left behind Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Elemental, Robot Dreams, and Nimona in the Best Animated Feature Film category. The Boy And The Heron revolves around the story of a boy named Mahitio Maki who shifts to the countryside after the demise of his mother. There, he comes across a mysterious heron in a secluded tower, a portal that transports him to a world of fantasy amid his grief.
