“She definitely didn’t write the book”: Henry Cavill’s Argylle Director Debunks Wild Rumor of Taylor Swift Writing the Book That Inspired His Movie
While Taylor Swift has done and achieved many momentous things and is probably one of the most talented people of her generation, she did not write the book Argylle. Swifties are well trained at this point to piece together clues from Miss Swift’s easter eggs about her albums, but it seems this time they missed the truth by a huge mark.
Swift has been basking in the glory of her Eras Tour and being chosen as Time Person of the Year, with a billionaire status that surpassed her longtime nemesis Kanye West. Recently, the rumor mill started flooding, with Swifties going crazy over the theory that Taylor Swift is the mysterious writer behind the book Argylle, which bagged a $200 million deal due to its impeccable brilliance. However, director Matthew Vaughn recently shut down all rumors, saying that it is simply not the case.
Argylle’s Crazy Taylor Swift Theory Gets A Definitive Answer From Director Matthew Vaughn
Many on the internet have been wondering if Taylor Swift is the mysterious Elly Conway, the author behind the book Argylle, which will serve as the inspiration behind Apple’s upcoming spy thriller.
Swift fans with detective skills that would put the FBI to shame reached the conclusion from the following clues: her penchant for argyle sweaters, her two Scottish Folds (the type of cat that features in the book as well as the movie), and the backpack used to carry the Scottish Fold in the movie (which is the same backpack Swift has used in her documentary Miss Americana in the past). Additionally, the main character in Argylle is played by Bryce Dallas Howard, who is a redhead, similar to Swift’s redhead in her popular short film All Too Well.
However, recently speaking to Rolling Stone, Matthew Vaughan put all the theories to rest and for good. He confirmed that there is indeed an author named Elly Conway and she is not Taylor Swift. In fact, when his daughter told him the rumor, he started laughing at the absurdity of it.
“I’m not a big internet guy, and it was actually my daughter who came up to me — this is the power of celebrity and the internet — and said, ‘You never told me Taylor wrote the book!’ I’m looking at her going, ‘What are you talking about Taylor Swift wrote the book? She didn’t write the book!’ I was laughing because I was like, ‘It’s not true! She didn’t write the book!’ But my daughter was convinced of it.”
He continued to say,
“There is an Elly Conway who wrote the book, but it’s not Taylor Swift. And I say that because I imagine Taylor Swift has a load of people trying to jump on her bandwagon left, right, and center, and I don’t want to be a part of that club. I did read the conspiracies and I was like, wow, they don’t leave a stone unturned! But it’s not Taylor Swift. She definitely didn’t write the book.”

According to Vaughan, the only connection Taylor Swift has whatsoever with the whole project is the casting of the Scottish Fold. His children apparently convinced his wife, model and actress Claudia Schiffer, to get a Scottish Fold after seeing Taylor Swift’s documentary Miss Americana.
“I got home one day, it was Christmas, and I was like, ‘What the f— is that noise?’” he recalled. “The kids had seen [Miss Americana] and there was a Scottish Fold in that, and they’d persuaded my wife, Claudia, to get them the kitten for Christmas. It was bought without my permission and hidden from me. As crazy as it sounds, that is our only Taylor Swift connection.”
If Taylor Swift is not Elly Conway, then who is, and what does one know about her? Let’s find out.
Who Is Elly Conway: The Mysterious Author Behind Argylle?
Since it is now definitely established that the Anti-Hero singer is not the hero behind this adroit work, many are looking for tidbits of information about the identity of the mysterious author, Elly Conway. Well, as per her biography by Penguin Random House, she was born and raised in New York. It is also mentioned that she wrote Argylle “while working as a waitress in a late-night diner.”
Believe it or not, this stupendous work is Conway’s first project. She also has an Instagram account but she is not very active on it. The only person she follows is her agent, Eric Reid.
Argylle is set to be released on February 2, 2024.
