“She isn’t a politician. She isn’t obligated”: Fans Support Taylor Swift after LGBTQ Community Blasts Her for Not Supporting the Cause
Taylor Swift is a prominent supporter of the LGBTQIA community. The pop star has always come out strong and spoken about how she would like to support the community by doing her bit. There are many Swifties who are from the LGBTQIA community. But recently, the Red singer disappointed her queer fans a little.
The Guardian came out with their perspective regarding how Swift has disappointed many fans around the United States of America while she performing all around the country. And once again, the internet is divided.
LGBTQIA community wants Taylor Swift to speak against the Anti-LGBTQIA laws
Taylor Swift is an ardent supporter of the LGBTQIA community. She is empathetic and has always raised her voice for her fans who belong to this community. Still, many Swifties who are from the LGBTQIA community are a bit upset with the singer. The United States of America has been introducing many laws against the LGBTQIA community which has sparked outrage amongst them.
The Guardian criticizes Taylor Swift’s lack of support for the LGBTQIA+ community in new article:
"Swift’s Eras tour has taken her to numerous states that have ushered in some of the most extreme anti-LGBTQ+ bills in decades, including Florida, Tennessee and Texas. Yet the… pic.twitter.com/vNHUHwQgqq

I mean she isn’t a politician. No performer is obligated to give a political discourse at their shows or anywhere in general.

I hate when people pick at an artist for not being a political activist enough or for being one too much.
If you’re going to call one girl out, call out EVERY SINGLE ARTIST who is in the same boat as them.
Picking and choosing just makes more stan wars.

Lizzo is doing it. Kylie is doing it. Beyoncé is doing it. Why she can’t?

She’s not obligated to do it but she LITERALLY turns her stadium into a pride flag every night of her tour. She also used a trans actor as her love interest in her last music video. People just love to hate on her

She's not obliged to always speak and give her opinion, it is something of hers, that she doesn't speak doesn't mean that she is in favor or that she is against it, it's a subject that she chooses, nobody forces her and they should not.

She's not a politician but she has voice, she has attention. Small gestures of support can indeed take on large proportions. Through it, politicians would listen LGBTQ+ community.

Swift is currently performing in her Eras tour in many states in the country, including Florida, Tennessee, and Texas. These states are also the states which have introduced Anti-LGBTQIA laws. As Swift has always promised to advocate for and support the community, many people think she could have stood against these laws and spoken regarding them.
Some Swifties said that she is not a politician and they think it is not her job to speak out all the time. She has always been a supporter of the community, but this expectation from Swift is unnecessary. The Red singer has not yet come out with a statement on this.
Taylor Swift stood for the LGBTQIA community in 2019
Swift has always been very vocal about her support and love for the people of the LGBTQIA community. In 2019, Swift requested her fans to raise their voices for the people of the Queer community. She requested all her fans to come out together and help the community to get equal rights in the country. In her statement Swift said,
“While we have so much to celebrate, we also have a great distance to go before everyone in this country is truly treated equally. Our country’s lack of protection for its own citizens ensures that LGBTQ people must live in fear that their lives could be turned upside down by an employer or landlord who is homophobic or transphobic.”
She further added,
“The fact that, legally, some people are completely at the mercy of the hatred and bigotry of others is disgusting and unacceptable,” she added. “Let’s show our pride by demanding that, on a national level, our laws truly treat all of our citizens equally.”
Taylor Swift also mentioned the LGBTQIA community when she won the Icon Award at the Attitude Awards. She thanked all her Swifties who were from the LGBTQIA community.
