One such was their comedy film Monster in Law, which came out in 2005, starring the pop icon as Fonda’s future daughter-in-law. During an appearance at a talk show, Fonda revealed that the All I Have star injured her during a slap scene, and guess what? JLo never apologized to her co-star for cutting her eyebrows!

The 2005 comedy film Monster in Law features the mouse-and-cat dynamic between Lopez’ Charlie, who falls in love with the son of Fonda’s Viola, an overprotective mother. The movie revolves around a strained relationship and humorous moments between JLo’s Charlie and her future mother-in-law.

While talking about the filming of a scene in Monster in Law on The Drew Barrymore Show (via TDF), Fonda shared that Jennifer Lopez cut her eyebrow with an “enormous diamond ring” and said:

“We have a slapping scene. I slap her, she slaps me, I slap her… Well, Jennifer, she had this enormous diamond ring. And so when she slapped me one of the times, it cut open across my eye. My eyebrow. She’s never apologized.”

Despite the unexpected hit, Jade Fonda and Jennifer Lopez incredibly played the roles, and their humorous relationship was well received by the audience. Monster in Law was a box-office hit, making around $155.46 million (via Box Office Mojo) on a $43 million budget.

Even though Jennifer Lopez didn’t apologize to Jade Fonda soon after the incident, later in her YouTube video, titled Making a Scene: Episode One, the Dance Again maker mentioned feeling bad. While acknowledging her impeccable co-star, Lopez talked about the scene when she accidentally poked Fonda’s eye. The singer said:

“Working with Jane Fonda was one of the highlights of my career. She is such a powerful presence and so in the moment. It is everything you dream of when you’re coming up as an actress and you think about working with the greats. 

Expressing her gratitude and working experience with the Barefoot in the Park star, JLo added:

“I was so afraid to hit Jane Fonda in the face or hurt her in any way… she was so brazen and like, ‘Just hit me! Don’t worry about it, it’s gonna be fine! I just remember afterward Jane had a blood blister right at the top of her eye. My nail, like, went up into her eye. I was mortified. I was [like], ‘Oh, I’m so sorry,’ and she was like, ‘It’s fine, it’s fine!’…She didn’t care. She’s such a gangster b*tch. I just love her.”

Currently, Jennifer Lopez is in the headlines for her upcoming and highly anticipated album This Is Me… Now, which comes two decades after its sister album This is Me…Then. The pop star has released the trailer of her album which is also accompanied by an Amazon Prime-exclusive narrative musical film titled This Is Me…Now: A Love Story, set to be released on February 16, 2024.
