The 56-year-old actress Helena Bonham Carter, has recently defended her previous co-star, Johnny Depp. The duo has worked in seven films together, five of which were directed by her former beau Tim Burton.
Not just that, Depp is also the godfather to her children Billy Ray and Nell, who she shares with Burton. In the SundayTimes interview, she claimed that the actor is vindicated when the court’s verdict came this year.
She shared, “Oh, I think he’s completely vindicated,” adding, “I think he’s fine now. Totally fine.”
When asked by the English actress if the #MeToo pendulum swung back, she replied,
“My view is that [Heard] got on that pendulum. That’s the problem with these things – that people will jump on the bandwagon because it’s the trend and to be the poster girl for it.”
Even though the actress did not have quite an active role in this year’s defamation lawsuit involving her co-star and his ex-wife, she did share her support in the 2020 UK Libel case.

The Enola Holmes star supported the Pirates of the Caribbean actor when he was fighting a case against a newspaper, The Sun for calling him a wife-beater over the claims made by the Aquaman star.
During his 2020 UK libel case against The Sun, Depp had sued the British newspaper and its executive editor, Dan Wootton, over their April 2018 headline labeling him a “wife-beater.” The verdict went against his favor with judge Mr. Justice Nicol sharing that the matter claimed in the article was “substantially true.”
While speaking with The Guardian back in 2020, Carter shared, “There’s something quite old-fashioned about Johnny, with these manners – none of it makes sense. But the man’s not stupid.” She supported her co-star by stating, “He wouldn’t have gone to this length if he thought he was in the wrong” referring to the trial.
The former couple, Depp and Heard went against each other in another court battle which was based on the op-ed Heard wrote in 2018 claiming herself to be a domestic abuse victim. The former filed the lawsuit claiming that the piece has taken a significant toll on his career demanding $50 million as damages. His claims were found true with the court asking his ex-wife to pay him $10.35m in damages while she was awarded $2m for her counter-claims.
